Racial susceptibility of sheep to gastrointestinal helminths
Suscetibilidade racial de ovinos a helmintos gastrintestinais

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2011
The objective was to compare the susceptibility of sheep breeds Lacaune, Bergamacia, Santa Ines and animals without defined breed (AWDB) kept confined to gastrointestinal helminths. The design used was a randomized block design being considered treatment

Opportunities and limits of commercial farm data to study the genetic determinism of feed efficiency throughout lactation in dairy sheep

open access: yesAnimal, 2023
The collective economic and environmental interest of the whole dairy sheep sector is to reduce feed costs and the negative impact of milk production on the environment.

Two cases of freemartinism in Lacaune ewes

open access: yesJournal of the Hellenic Veterinary Medical Society, 2017
In this study the anatomy of the genital system, the histology of gonads, the reproductive behavior and the chromosome examinations of two freemartin Lacaune ewes were described. The appearance of these ewes resembled that of a ram, but their external genitalia were female with an enlarged clitoris.

Genomic Analysis of Hair Sheep From West/Central Africa Reveals Unique Genetic Diversity and Ancestral Links to Breed Formation in the Caribbean

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 24, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Cameroon Blackbelly sheep are a domestic breed of hair sheep from West/Central Africa. They are popular with small‐holder farmers in Cameroon as they are highly resilient to local environmental challenges and are prolific a‐seasonal breeders.

Factors affecting ewe's milk fat and protein content and relationships between milk yield and milk components

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2007
Test-day records of purebred Tsigai, Improved Valachian and Lacaune ewes were used to analyse the effect of environmental factors on milk fat and protein content.

Energy Intake During the Transition Period Triggers Substantial Impacts on Body Weight, Milk Production Efficiency, Milk Composition and Blood Biochemical Constituents in Fat‐Tailed Ewes

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
The nutritional management during the transition period is crucial for sheep. This research highlighted a significant association between the energy intake of ewes and various factors, including their body weight, milk production and composition, production efficiency, as well as key blood biomarkers indicative of the metabolic status of the animals ...

Reference values for serum amyloid A, haptoglobin, lysozyme, zinc and iron in healthy lactating Lacaune sheep

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 2018
Acute-phase proteins and trace elements are considered biomarkers of the immune response to infection, inflammation, trauma and other pathological conditions, as well as indicators of the health status and productivity of farm animals. Given the scarcity

Genetic Correlation Between Female Fertility and Milk Yield in Lacaune Sheep [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2008
A total of 416,670 lactations for 189,101 ewes from 3,603 sires and distributed across 1,978 herd-year groups were used to estimate genetic and environmental parameters of standardized milk yield (SMY(T)), fertility in ewe lambs (PR(1)), and fertility in adult ewes (PR(A)).

Estimation of genetic parameters for production, composition and processability of milk from dairy sheep in a New Zealand flock

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 68, Issue 5, Page 1107-1124, October 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper aimed to estimate the heritability and genetic correlations for processability (milk coagulation properties, cheese yield, and heat stability), milk production, and milk composition of dairy sheep in a New Zealand flock. Test‐day records from 169 ewes were obtained during the 2021–2022 season. Heritability estimates for yield traits
