Host‐Guest Inclusion Chemistry From Supramolecular Architecture Enabling Anti‐Biofouling Surfaces for Oesophagus Stents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A slippery coating with exceptional anti‐biofouling performance is developed using biocompatible materials for oesophagus stents. Host‐guest inclusion complex formation capabilities of FDA‐approved supramolecules, cyclodextrins are exploited, which significantly enhances the stability of the surface.

Hypoxia Pathway Proteins As Central Mediators of Metabolism in the Tumor Cells and Their Microenvironment

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Low oxygen tension or hypoxia is a determining factor in the course of many different processes in animals, including when tissue expansion and cellular metabolism result in high oxygen demands that exceed its supply.

Assessment of Lactobacillus crispatus´ role in vaginal infections: friend or foe? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Lactobacillus spp. are the most prevalent microorganisms in the vaginal milleu. Several probiotic mechanisms have been associated with Lactobacillus, but the most relevant one is lactate production – resulting in a low pH value, typical of the healthy ...

Development of Substrate‐Independent Antifouling and Bactericidal Surfaces Using Visible Light Cross‐Linked Hydrogel Coatings for Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A new antifouling, antithrombogenic, and bactericidal hydrogel coating method is developed for implantable medical devices. The hydrogel coating can be easily formed by visible‐light crosslinking and is universally applicable to all substrates, ranging from polymers to metals.

Bioprinted Micro‐Clots for Kinetic Analysis of Endothelial Cell‐Mediated Fibrinolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
This paper describes the development of a microscale model that quantifies the breakdown of fibrin by endothelial cells. The small size scale of this engineered system enables fibrin breakdown to be observed without the addition of external activators. This system could help in identifying compounds which both promote and hinder thrombosis.
