Biomimetic Nanomedicines Deliver Naringin for Enhanced Acute Liver Failure Therapy via Balanced Regulation of Hepatocyte Oxidative Stress and Kupffer Cell Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic nanomedicine (RBLN) constructed by loading natural antioxidants to clinically used layered double hydroxide nanoparticles is surface coated with fresh or senescent red blood cell membrane for balanced drug delivery to hepatocytes and KCs, thereby simultaneously alleviating liver oxidant stress and inflammation for effective drug‐induced ...

Double Cross‐Linked Hydrogel for Intra‐articular Injection as Modality for Macrophages Metabolic Reprogramming and Therapy of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel for intra‐articular injection for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is formulated and comprehensively studied. After administration, the hydrogel induces a metabolic reprogramming of immunometabolism of macrophages to trigger fatty acid oxidation subsequently inducing polarization of anti‐inflammatory M2 macrophages. This results in

Bioprinted Micro‐Clots for Kinetic Analysis of Endothelial Cell‐Mediated Fibrinolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
This paper describes the development of a microscale model that quantifies the breakdown of fibrin by endothelial cells. The small size scale of this engineered system enables fibrin breakdown to be observed without the addition of external activators. This system could help in identifying compounds which both promote and hinder thrombosis.

On a Brain Tumor Growth Model with Lactate Metabolism, Viscoelastic Effects, and Tissue Damage [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In this paper, we study a nonlinearly coupled initial-boundary value problem describing the evolution of brain tumor growth including lactate metabolism. In our modeling approach, we also take into account the viscoelastic properties of the tissues as well as the reversible damage effects that could occur, possibly caused by surgery.

Serum lactate as reliable biomarker of acute kidney injury in low-risk cardiac surgery patients [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2019
Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) frequently occurs in patients assessed as low-risk for developing CSA-AKI. Neutrophil GelatinaseAssociated Lipocalin (N G AL), Kidney Injury Molecule-1 (KIM-1) and lactate are promising

Printed, Flexible Lactate Sensors: Design Considerations Before Performing On-Body Measurements. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This work reports the process of sensor development, optimization, and characterization before the transition to on-body measurements can be made. Sensors using lactate oxidase as a sensing mechanism and tetrathiafulvalene as a mediator were optimized ...

Engineered Chitosan‐Derived Nanocarrier for Efficient siRNA Delivery to Peripheral and Central Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel chitosan‐based nanocarrier functionalized with a neurotropic protein for efficient siRNA delivery to neurons. The polyplexes demonstrate enhanced neuronal binding, retrograde transport, and PTEN silencing, promoting axonal outgrowth.
