Regulatory role and therapeutic prospect of lactate modification in cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Post-translational modifications (PTMs) of proteins refer to the process of adding chemical groups, sugars, or other molecules to specific residues of target proteins following their biosynthesis by ribosomes.

Lactation Curves for First Lactation Egyptian Buffalo

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1994
First lactation records of 1538 buffalo maintained at the Animal Production Research Institute farms in 1967 to 1990 were used to determine lactation curves for three lactation lengths: > 28 and < 150 d, > 149 d, and > or = 308 d, as well as all records. Daily milk yields were summed by 14-d intervals for analyses.

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Acute Effects of Two Different Concurrent Training Models on Physiological Parameters, Explosive Strenght and Balance Performance in Soccer Players

open access: yesTürk Spor ve Egzersiz Dergisi
In the study, the acute effects of two different concurrent training models including high intensity interval training (HIIT) and high intensity interval functional training (HIFT) plus strength training (S) on physiological indicators (lactate and heart

Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Whole blood ratio of CDK1/CX3CR1 mRNA expression combined to lactate refines the prediction of ICU mortality in septic patients in the Sepsis-3 era: a proof-of-concept study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundTranscriptomics biomarkers have been widely used to predict mortality in patients with sepsis. However, the association between mRNA levels and outcomes shows substantial variability over the course of sepsis, limiting their predictive ...

Hypothermal Effects on Energy Supply for Ionocytes in Gills of Freshwater- and Seawater-Acclimated Milkfish, Chanos chanos

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
The milkfish, Chanos chanos, is an important aquaculture species that can be cultured in freshwater (FW) and seawater (SW) ponds because of its high euryhalinity. In winter, cold snap leading to high mortality of this tropical species is a critical issue

Dapagliflozin prevents methylglyoxal‐induced retinal cell death in ARPE‐19 cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Diabetic macular oedema is a diabetes complication of the eye, which may lead to permanent blindness. ARPE‐19 are human retinal cells used to study retinal diseases and potential therapeutics. Methylglyoxal is a compound increased in uncontrolled diabetes due to elevated blood glucose.

The influence of prenatal exercise modes on resting maternal blood lactate

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Resting lactate concentration in venous blood is a commonly used indicator of metabolic disease risk. Regular exercise during pregnancy improves maternal metabolic health; however, it is unknown if maternal exercise regulates resting lactate ...

Analysis of lactation shapes in extended lactations

open access: yesanimal, 2012
In order to describe the temporal evolution of milk yield (MY) and composition in extended lactations, 21 658 lactations of Italian Holstein cows were analyzed. Six empirical mathematical models currently used to fit 305 standard lactations (Wood, Wilmink, Legendre, Ali and Schaeffer, quadratic and cubic splines) and one function developed specifically
