Quantitative constraint-based computational model of tumor-to-stroma coupling via lactate shuttle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cancer cells utilize large amounts of ATP to sustain growth, relying primarily on non-oxidative, fermentative pathways for its production.

High level of intraoperative lactate might predict acute kidney injury in aortic arch surgery via minimally invasive approach in patients with type A dissection

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
BackgroundA high incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) has been recorded in total arch replacement (TAR) combined with frozen elephant trunk (FET) implantation in patients with acute type A dissection (ATAAD) via median sternotomy approach with some ...

Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Roxarestat in Regulating Renal Anemia in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of roxarestat versus recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) in the management of renal anemia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods This was a prospective, open‐label, randomized controlled trial.

Blood and salivary lactate responses to active rest following circuit exercise

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
The present study investigated blood and salivary lactate concentrations with or without active recovery following intensive exercise. Seven men and four women were randomly assigned to two trials consisting of a control (CON) trial and an active ...

Blood lactate clearance after maximal exercise depends on active recovery intensity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
AIM: High-intensity exercise is time-limited by onset of fatigue, marked by accumulation of blood lactate. This is accentuated at maximal, all-out exercise that rapidly accumulates high blood lactate.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Serum lactate as a prognostic factor in coronary artery bypass graft operation by on pump method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Lactic acidosis in cardiac surgical patients is a manifestation of systemic inflammation and excess pro-inflammatory cytokine production. This investigation was designed to integrate basic concepts about lactate acidosis with a clinically ...

Incorporating expression data in metabolic modeling: a case study of lactate dehydrogenase

open access: yes, 2005
Integrating biological information from different sources to understand cellular processes is an important problem in systems biology. We use data from mRNA expression arrays and chemical kinetics to formulate a metabolic model relevant to K562 ...

Inspiratory muscle training abolishes the blood lactate increase associated with volitional hyperpnoea superimposed on exercise and accelerates lactate and oxygen uptake kinetics at the onset of exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We examined the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) upon volitional hyperpnoea-mediated increases in blood lactate ([lac−]B) during cycling at maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) power, and blood lactate and oxygen uptake kinetics at the onset ...
