Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Hydrogelation via Supramolecular Copolymerization of Structural Water within Adaptive Metal–Organic Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Structural water is harnessed as an active co‐monomer to drive supramolecular polymerization in bulk water. Zinc(II) Salphen complexes confine water molecules to form hollow, metal–organic nanofibers that assemble into adaptive hydrogels with thermoresponsive mechanics and selective chiral recognition.

Raising the iron curtain: Lactate's secret role in oxidative stress defense

open access: yesRedox Biology
The hypothesis presented here is that certain cell types under oxidative stress, such as cancer cells, reprogram their metabolism to accumulate lactate, along with cytosolic Fe2+ within the labile iron pool, thereby establishing a metabolite-based H2O2 ...

[Lactate-guanidinium and lactate-lactate weak interactions in aqueous solutions].

open access: yesActa pharmaceutica Hungarica, 1995
Spectropolarimetry was used to quantify the guanidinium-lactate and lactate-lactate equilibrium reactions. Association constants for the guanidinium-lactate and lactate-lactate formations are 6.11 and 1.12, respectively, in aqueous solution. The value 6.11 is certainly high among electrostatic interactions in water.

Chemically Doped Conductive Polymers for Wearable Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Among conductive polymers, poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), polyaniline (PANI), and polypyrrole (PPy) are the most studied and applied. Chemical doping significantly boosts intrinsic conductivity and mechanical robustness.

Health of farmed fish: its relation to fish welfare and its utility as welfare indicator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This brief review focuses on health and biological function as cornerstones of fish welfare. From the function-based point of view, good welfare is reflected in the ability of the animal to cope with infectious and non-infectious stressors, thereby ...
