NUMBER AND VIABILITY OF YOUNG FROM PREGNANCIES CONCURRENT WITH LACTATION IN THE MOUSE

Journal of Endocrinology, 1956
SUMMARY In many rodents, including the rat and the mouse, implantation of the fertilized ovum fails to take place at the normal time if the female is lactating. The delay in implantation tends to be longer the larger the litter suckling, and pregnancy may be prolonged for several days.

The prevalence of some microorganisms in cows’ milk with regard to lactation number, lactation period and somatic cellcount

Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of lactation number, lactation stage and somatic cell count (SCC) on the presence of pathogenic or opportunistic pathogens in cow milk. A total of 1712 milk samples were collected from the udder quarters of 428 lactating Holstein breed cows for bacteriological examination. Somatic cell count was taken from

Milk yield and composition in mice: Effects of litter size and lactation number

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1986
Milk yield was measured by a tritiated water dilution procedure during consecutive lactations in mice suckling four, 10 or 18 young. Analysis of variance revealed positive effects of lactation number and litter size on milk yield. There was a significant correlation between maternal body weight and parity; increased body weight accounted for some, but ...

Association of Lactation Numbers of Crossbred Cows with Their Serum Antisperm Antibody Titre

Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2022
Background: The objective of this study was to find out the association of lactation numbers of crossbred cow with their serum antisperm antibody titre, if any. Methods: Total 163 numbers of normal breeding crossbred jersey crossbred cows belong to various lactational groups maintained in the Instructional Livestock Farm, College of Veterinary Science,

Lactate dehydrogenase activity as a rapid and sensitive test for the quantification of cell numbers in vitro

Clinical Materials, 1994
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) has been used extensively as a marker for cell death both in vitro and in vivo. The release of LDH into tissue culture medium accurately reflects cell viability in vitro. We have investigated the relationship between cell concentration and total LDH activity in samples of cell lysate.

Effects of Number of Lambs Suckled and Supplemental Protein Source on Lactating Ewe Performance

Journal of Animal Science, 1985
Effects of number of lambs suckled and supplemental protein source on ewe performance were determined. Lactation performance of ewes nursing twin or triplet lambs was compared in Exp. 1 and 2. In Exp. 1, ewes giving birth to and nursing triplets produced 21% (P less than .05) more milk/unit metabolic body weight, were 10% more efficient in the ...

Effect of stage and number of lactation on the yield and composition of cow's milk

Journal of Dairy Research, 1965
SummaryThe effects of stage of lactation and of age on milk and composition yield of cows kept under controlled conditions of feeding and management were investigated. Two groups each of 3 Friesian heifers were used: one group (A) was given a daily diet of 18 lb hay and concentrates at the rate of 3·8 lb/10 lb of milk and kept on experiment throughout ...

The Effect of lactation number and lactation stage on cows milking parameters

2019
The aim of the research was to evaluate the influence of lactation number and lactation stage on cows milking parameters and to determine their influence on cows productivity. Cows were milked by GEA systrem „Mlone“ milking robots. We analyzed: milk yield (kg), average milk flow rates during first two minutes at 0-15, 15-30, 30-60, 60-120 s (kg/min ...

Effect of Lactation Stage and Number on Milk Albumin (BSA) and Somatic Cell Count

Zentralblatt für Veterinärmedizin Reihe A, 1981
SummaryUnselected material consisting of composite milk samples from 1,029 Ayrshire cows was analyzed for somatic cell count (Fossomatic method) and serum albumin (BSA) concentration (radial immunodiffusion). The effect of lactation stage and number on the somatic cell count and milk BSA and their interrelationship was analyzed by computer programmes ...

Effects of genotype and lactation number on health and reproductive problems in dairy cows

Proceedings of the British Society of Animal Science, 1997
High producing dairy cows have been found to be more susceptible to disease (Jones et al., 1994; Göhn et al., 1995) raising concerns about the welfare of the modern dairy cow. Genotype and number of lactations may affect various health problems differently, and their relative importance may vary.
