Harnessing Vinylogy with Radicals: Photoinduced γ‐Benzylation Reactions of 2‐Silyloxyfurans

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Two radical‐mediated benzylations of 2‐silyloxyfurans, promoted by visible light and suitable photoredox catalysts have been disclosed. A broad scope of γ‐benzyl butenolides was obtained in one step, some of which were used as strategic precursors to bio‐valuable chiral butanolides.

Identification of Quorum-Sensing Molecules of N-Acyl-Homoserine Lactone in Gluconacetobacter Strains by Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Many Gram-negative bacteria can regulate gene expression in a cell density-dependent manner via quorum-sensing systems using N-acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs), which are typical quorum-sensing signaling molecules, and thus modulate physiological ...

Microbiological transformation of a synthetic benzofurane type lactone [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2000
The aim of this work was the investigation of the biotransformation ability of a synthetic benzofurane type g-lactone. This work was based on the microbiological reactions of Aspergillus niger, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Bacillus mycoides ...

Studies on lactone stabilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The theories of Bucourt concerning the stabilities of mono-and polycyclic compounds have been critically exarnined and modified. Ring strain (as measured by heats of combustion in the literature) may be calculated with irnproved accuracy by the modified theory.

Melt block copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and L-lactide [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
AB block copolymers of ε-caprolactone and (L)-lactide could be prepared by ring-opening polymerization in the melt at 110°C using stannous octoate as a catalyst and ethanol as an initiator provided ε-caprolactone was polymerized first.

Asymmetric Strategies for the Synthesis of Enantiopure α‐/β‐/γ‐Thio‐Carboxylic Acids Bearing a Stereocentre at CS Bond

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
Enantioenriched α‐/β‐/γ‐thiocarboxylic acids featuring C–S chirality are valuable targets in organic synthesis. This review outlines recent progress in their asymmetric synthesis, including chiral pool approaches, metal‐ /organo‐catalysis, and emerging biocatalytic strategies. Enantiomerically pure α‐/β‐/γ‐thiocarboxylic acids bearing a stereocentre at

Preferred β-lactone synthesis can explain high rate of false-negative results in the detection of OXA-48-like carbapenemases

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The resistance to carbapenems is usually mediated by enzymes hydrolyzing β-lactam ring. Recently, an alternative way of the modification of the antibiotic, a β-lactone formation by OXA-48-like enzymes, in some carbapenems was identified.

Implications of Rewiring Bacterial Quorum Sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Bacteria employ quorum sensing, a form of cell-cell communication, to sense changes in population density and regulate gene expression accordingly.

Integrating Visible‐Light Photocatalysis and Enzymes for the Stereoselective Synthesis of Alcohols and Amines

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
The integration between visible‐light photocatalysis and biocatalysis has the potential to greatly improve modern organic synthesis by combining the production of valuable synthetic intermediates under mild photochemical conditions with the high degree of stereoselectivity reached by enzymes. The review collects the recent efforts in the photoenzymatic
