EFFECTS OF INTERCROPPING SYSTEM AND NITROGEN FERTILIZATION ON LAND EQUIVALENT RATIO, YIELD AND MINERAL CONTENT OF BROCCOLI

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum Hortorum Cultus, 2020
To determine effects of intercropping broccoli with onion and their correspondence to different nitrogen concentrations on growth, yield and nutrient contents, field studies were conducted for two years.

Robust increases of land equivalent ratio with temporal niche differentiation : A meta-quantile regression

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, 2016
Intercropping has been shown to be land use efficient, but there is a large variation in the land equivalent ratio (LER) among studies. We used quantile regression to estimate the effect of temporal niche differentiation and its interaction with other key characteristics of intercropping, i.e., crop type combination, N fertilizer, relative density, and

A General form of the ‘Land Equivalent Ratio’

open access: yesExperimental Agriculture, 1984
SUMMARYThe Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) concept is presented and interpreted. Several different intercropping systems are considered and the need for methods to evaluate them is discussed. A general form of the LER is proposed for the evaluation, in particular, of a system that combines two intercrops having different yield proportions.

Trade-Off between Energy Wood and Grain Production in Temperate Alley-Cropping Systems: An Empirical and Simulation-Based Derivation of Land Equivalent Ratio

open access: yesAgriculture (Switzerland), 2019
The alley-cropping systems (ACSs), which integrate parallel tree strips at varying distances on an agricultural field can result, complementarity of resource use, in an increased land-use efficiency. Practitioners’ concerns have been directed towards the

Productivity and Land Equivalent Ratio of Intercropping Cotton with Some Winter Crops in Egypt

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 2016
Two field experiments were carried out at Research Station, El-Sharkia Governorate, ARC, Egypt during 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons to inv estigate the effect of relay intercropping cotton with some winter crops as compared with sequential solid ...

Proxydetection of the impact distance of trees on crops: An indicator of the Land Equivalent Ratio?

open access: yesAgriculture, Ecosystems and Environment
Highlights: • Crops yield and leftovers were scaled up to the field-scale. • Using spectral images throughout the crop cycle improves productivity predictions. • The distance of influence of trees on crops can be measured by proxydetection and reveals the Land Equivalent Ratio.Abstract: Faidherbia albida is known to affect the yield of various crops ...

Ecophysiological Investigation of Intercropping of Maize (Zea mays L.) and Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) under the Influence of Biofertilizers [PDF]

open access: yesIkufīziyuluzhī-i Giyāhān-i Zirā̒ī, 2021
To study the management of different systems of maize (Zea mays) and cow pea (Vigna unguiculata) intercropping affected by biofertilizers in alley cropping, a split plot experiment based on a randomized complete blocks design was conducted in 2016 in ...

Intercropping of some Faba Bean Cultivars with Sugar Beet using Different Irrigation Intervals under Sprinkler System in Sandy Soils [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Production, 2020
A two-year field experiment was carried out at Ismailia Agriculture Research Station, ARC, Egypt during 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons to assess the effect of two deficit irrigation intervals (irrigation every 4 (I2) and 5 days (I3), compared to irrigation ...

Biomass, yield and competitiveness of maize and bean crops in an association system [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Ceres, 2023
Polycultures are of great importance in conventional agriculture in the tropical zone, where they are a sustainable source of food production. In this study, the biomass distribution, crop yield and competition were determined in the maize and bean ...
