Langerin‐expressing dendritic cells in gut‐associated lymphoid tissues
Immunological Reviews, 2010Summary: Dendritic cells (DCs) are key regulators of the immune system. They act as professional antigen‐presenting cells and are capable of activating naive T cells and stimulating the growth and differentiation of B cells. According to their molecular expression, DCs can be divided into several subsets with different functions.

Kinetic and Structural Studies of Interactions between Glycosaminoglycans and Langerin
Biochemistry, 2016Langerin, a C-type lectin, is expressed in Langerhans cells. It was reported that langerin binds sulfated glycans, which is an important initial step for its role in blocking human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission by capturing HIV pathogens and mediating their internalization into Birbeck granules for their elimination.

Langerin is a natural barrier to HIV-1 transmission by Langerhans cells
Nature Medicine, 2007Human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) is primarily transmitted sexually. Dendritic cells (DCs) in the subepithelium transmit HIV-1 to T cells through the C-type lectin DC-specific intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-3-grabbing nonintegrin (DC-SIGN). However, the epithelial Langerhans cells (LCs) are the first DC subset to encounter HIV-1.

New aspects of langerin dendritic cells in patients with COPD
Airway Cell Biology and Immunopathology, 2017Background: Alveolar antigen uptake has remained poorly investigated in human lungs and it is unclear to what extent dendritic cell (DC) subsets are altered in the alveolar parenchyma of patients with COPD. Objectives: To assess the distribution and marker profile of DCs in distal lungs of patients with COPD.

19F NMR-Guided Design of Glycomimetic Langerin Ligands
ACS Chemical Biology, 2016C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) play a pivotal role in pathogen defense and immune homeostasis. Langerin, a CLR predominantly expressed on Langerhans cells, represents a potential target receptor for the development of anti-infectives or immunomodulatory therapies.

Langerin-expressing and CD83-expressing cells in oral lichen planus lesions
Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 2007Dendritic Langerhans cells (LCs) have been attributed a role in the pathogenesis of lichen planus as autoantigen-presenting cells initiating expansion of autoreactive T cells. Langerin and CD83, which are cell molecules expressed on LCs, are associated with antigen presentation.

Gene Polymorphisms of CD207 (Langerin) Are Associated With End-Stage Renal Disease
Transplantation Proceedings, 2016The CD207 molecule, also known as langerin, is known to be the first immunologic barrier expressed on Langerhans cells, which are the immature dendritic cells of the epidermis and mucosa. Inflammation could be a causal factor in the progression of chronic kidney disease.

The Origin and Function of Langerin (CD207) Expressing Cells in Mice and Humans
Blood, 2012Abstract Abstract SCI-7 The current paradigm suggests that Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) results from an accumulation of epidermal dendritic cells also called Langerhans cells. This concept is based on phenotypic and ultrastructural observations showing that LCH lesions are infiltrated by CD1a+langerin+ cells, two ...
