Halide gas-phase-doping technique to fabricate large-mode-area laser fiber

open access: yes, 2016
By using rare;earth;halide gas;phase;doping technique, we fabricated Yb;doped large;mode;area fiber preform. Yb concentration is of ∼9500ppmw in core area and 951W@1064nm laser output was obtained with a slope efficiency of 83.3%.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Anti-Resonant Fiber with Large Mode Area and Ultra-High HOMER for Near-Infrared High-Power Laser

open access: yesPhotonics
A novel anti-resonant hollow-core fiber (AR-HCF) is proposed. The fiber uses cross-nested circular cladding tubes including single-nested and non-nested tubes in the near-infrared spectral region of 1.3–1.7 μm.

Spectral characteristics of chirped fiber Bragg gratings in large-mode-area fibers

open access: yes, 2011
A matrix method is extended to solve the multimode coupling differential equations, and thereby the spectral characteristics of the chirped Bragg gratings in large-mode-area fibers (LMA FBGs) are studied theoretically.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Mode-adaptive control of a kilowatt-level large-mode-area fiber laser based on 5×1 photonic lantern

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
This study presents high-power mode-selective operation in a large-mode-area (LMA) fiber laser. A spatial mode-adaptive control system incorporating a 5×1 photonic lantern was employed to facilitate mode conversion between the LP01 and LP11 modes.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...
