Large-Scale Structure in the Universe

open access: yes, 1996
How is the universe organized on large scales? How did this structure evolve from the unknown initial conditions to the present time? The answers to these questions will shed light on the cosmology we live in, the amount, composition and distribution of ...

The large-scale Structure and dynamics of the local universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis investigates the dynamics of the local Universe with particular reference to discovering the source of the Local Group (LG) motion. A redshift survey of the Great Attractor (GA) region, thought responsible for a significant fraction of the LG

Galaxy Spin Transition Driven by the Misalignments between the Protogalaxy Inertia and Initial Tidal Tensors

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A numerical detection of the τ -driven transition of galaxy spins is presented, where τ is the degree of misalignment between the initial tidal field and protogalaxy inertia tensors.

Automated FRAP microscopy for high‐throughput analysis of protein dynamics in chromatin organization and transcription

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoboMic is an automated confocal microscopy pipeline for high‐throughput functional imaging in living cells. Demonstrated with fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), it integrates AI‐driven nuclear segmentation, ROI selection, bleaching, and analysis.

AI-powered Reconstruction of Dark Matter Velocity Fields from Redshift-space Halo Distribution

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We propose a UNet-based deep learning model to reconstruct the real-space dark matter (DM) velocity field from the redshift-space distribution of sparse DM halos.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Objective-prism and slit-spectra redshifts in a study of the distribution of galaxies

open access: yes, 2014
A thorough and detailed investigation into the accuracy, reliability and consistency of the objective-prism redshift technique with changes in plate material, measuring machine and reduction techniques has been undertaken.

Disentangling Target Lines from Interlopers and Continuum with Neural Networks: A SPHEREx Intensity Mapping Case Study

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Line-intensity mapping (LIM) traces the large-scale distribution of matter by measuring fluctuations in aggregate line emission from unresolved galaxies and the intergalactic medium, providing a powerful probe of both astrophysics and cosmology. However,

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...
