High peak/average power picosecond pulsed MOPA system with tapered large mode area double-clad Yb-doped fiber [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2022
In this paper, a high peak/average power picosecond pulsed master‑oscillator power‑amplifier (MOPA) system utilizing tapered large mode area double-clad fiber (T-DCF) is presented. In a high average power regime, we report a pulsed MOPA laser system with

Large-area single-mode photonic bandgap VCSELs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2004
We demonstrate that the photonic bandgap effect can be used to control the modes of large area vertical cavity surface emitting lasers. We obtain more than 20 dB side mode suppression ratios in a 10-micron area device.

Large Mode Area Fibers for High Power Applications [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Fiber Technology, 1999
We review our recent work toward designing large mode area fibers for high power applications. We show that appropriately designed doped multi-mode fibers can be used to provide robust single-mode output when used in fiber laser cavities. Single-mode (SM) fiber mode field diameters of ~35µm are demonstrated with record SM pulse energies of 0.5mJ at ...

All-Glass Single-Mode Leakage Channel Microstructured Optical Fibers with Large Mode Area and Low Bending Loss

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
The paper presents the results of theoretical and experimental studies of all-glass leakage channel microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) with a large mode area and low bending losses. These MOFs contain two layers of fluorine-doped silica glass elements

Polarization-maintaining large-mode-area solid-core anti-resonant fiber for high-power fiber lasers

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
A polarization-maintaining large-mode-area solid-core anti-resonant fiber is investigated in this work with double-layer anti-resonant elements for improved capability on fundamental mode guidance and higher order mode suppression, and structural and ...

Influence of Pedestal Fiber Splice on Tm-Doped Fiber Laser Performance

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2023
The influence of Tm-doped pedestal fiber splice on the output performance of a large-mode-area (LMA) Tm-doped fiber laser (TDFL) has been investigated. Arc-fusion induced refractive-index deformation leads to laser leakage from the core to the pedestal ...

Bending Orientation Insensitive Large Mode Area Photonic Crystal Fiber With Triangular Core

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
In view of the feasibility of fabrication and application, a bending orientation insensitive large mode area photonic crystal fiber with triangular core is proposed. This fiber structure breaks the limit of bend orientation angle and realizes single mode

Design and Analysis of Trench-Assisted Low-Bending-Loss Large-Mode-Field-Area Multi-Core Fiber with an Air Hole

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
In this paper, a trench-assisted low-bending-loss large-mode-field-area multi-core fiber with air hole is proposed, which can achieve dual-mode transmission.

The effect of periodicity on the defect modes of large mode area microstructured fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2008
It is well known that periodic variations in refractive index can be used to create guidance in an optical fiber via photonic bandgap effects. It has also been shown that periodic structure in index-guiding microstructured fibers can lead to the guidance of additional leaky higher-order modes due to bandgap effects.

Characteristics of Collimators Based on the Large-Mode-Area CMCF for Coupling Laser Beam

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
A new collimator based on a homemade concentric multilayer-core fiber (CMCF) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. This collimator was fabricated using a tail fiber with large mode area and single-mode operation.
