Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Large Strain Finite Element Analysis of Spinodal Shell Structures
Thesis (Master's)--University of Washington, 2023Nanoarchitected materials combine architecture properties with nano-scale size effects such as increased tensile strength, but often suffer from localized failure and low mechanical efficiency ...

Uniaxial Dynamic Tensile Properties of Hydraulic Concrete after Freezing-Thawing Cycles
In this paper, freeze-thaw cycles tests of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 times for large aggregate concrete were carried out and uniaxial dynamic tensile tests under the strain rates of 10-5/s, 10-4/s, 10-3/s and 10-2/s were also performed.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Characterisation of large strain viscoelastic properties of polymers
The most widely used approach to model the large strain elastic and the time-dependent response of polymers in a finite element simulation is the application of the so-called hyper-viscoelastic material model, which is composed of a nonlinear elastic ...

Large strain detection of SRM composite shell based on fiber Bragg grating sensor
There may be more than 2% strain of carbon fiber composite material on solid rocket motor (SRM) in some extreme cases. A surface-bonded silica fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensor coated by polymer is designed to detect the large strain of composite ...

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Detonation Induced Strain in Tubes [PDF]
When a detonation wave propagates through a piping system, it acts as a traveling pressure load to the pipe wall. The detonation wave must be followed by an expansion wave in order to bring the combustion products to zero velocity at the ignition end ...

TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.
