HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Wavelength-Tunable Chirped Pulse Amplification System (1720 nm–1800 nm) Based on Thulium-Doped Fiber
Chirped pulse amplification (CPA) has been a commonly used methodology to obtain powerful ultrashort laser pulses ever since its first demonstration. However, wavelength-tunable CPA systems are much less common.

Passive alignment stability and auto-alignment of multipass amplifiers based on Fourier transforms
The stability properties of Fourier-based multipass amplifier to misalignments (tilts) of its optical components has been investigated. For this purpose, a method to quantify the sensitivity to tilts based on the amplifier small signal gain has been ...

Wavelength conversion at 10 Gb/s by four-wave mixing over a 30-nm interval [PDF]
We show that the use of a long semiconductor optical amplifier increases the error-free conversion interval of a four-wave mixing (FWM)-based wavelength converter.

Optical fibres, lasers, and amplifiers [PDF]
Initially, the only operation that could be performed in optical fibre communication was transmitting optical information from one point to another, necessitating complex auxiliary electronic circuitry. In recent years, however, a range of fibre components has been developed which promise to become as ubiquitous and indispensable as the transistor is ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Self-injection-locked thin-film regenerative laser amplifier
Summary: Organic lasers based on distributed feedback (DFB) microcavities have been extensively investigated. However, the application of these lasers is limited by their low output power and large beam divergence.

Transient dynamics of linear quantum amplifiers [PDF]
The transient dynamics of a quantum linear amplifier during the transition from damping to amplification regime is studied. The master equation for the quantized mode of the field is solved, and the solution is used to describe the statistics of the ...

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
