Multi-GeV Electron Generation Using Texas Petawatt Laser [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present simulation results and experimental setup for multi-GeV electron generation by a laser plasma wake field accelerator (LWFA) driven by the Texas Petawatt (TPW) laser.

Effect of Pd/ZnO Morphology on Surface Acoustic Wave Sensor Response

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Laser deposition was used to obtain Pd/ZnO bilayers, which were used as sensing layers in surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors. The effect of laser deposition parameters such as deposition pressure, laser energy per pulse, laser wavelength or pulse ...

Optical Characterization of Ciprofloxacin Photolytic Degradation by UV-Pulsed Laser Radiation

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Ciprofloxacin is one of the most prescribed antibiotics in treating bacterial infections, becoming an important pollutant of the wastewaters. Moreover, ciprofloxacin is hard to be destroyed by conventional water treatment processes; therefore, efficient ...

Nitrites Detection with Sensors Processed via Matrix-Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
This work is focused on the application of a laser-based technique, i.e., matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) for the development of electrochemical sensors aimed at the detection of nitrites in water.

In vivo study of the effects of a portable cold plasma device and vitamin C for skin rejuvenation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Nowadays, cold atmospheric plasma shows interesting results in dermatology. In the present study, a new portable cold plasma was designed for plasma skin rejuvenation (PSR) purposes. This device is safe and easy to use at beauty salons and homes.

Hydrodynamic Scaling Analysis of Nuclear Fusion driven by ultra-intense laser-plasma interactions

open access: yes, 2012
We discuss scaling laws of fusion yields generated by laser-plasma interactions. The yields are found to scale as a function of the laser power. The origin of the scaling law in the laser driven fusion yield is derived in terms of hydrodynamic scaling ...

Laser opacity in underdense preplasma of solid targets due to quantum electrodynamics effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate how next-generation laser pulses at 10 PW $-$ 200 PW interact with a solid target in the presence of a relativistically underdense preplasma produced by amplified spontaneous emission (ASE).

Laser-Generated Plasmas

open access: yesIEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 2005 IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2005
Summary form only given. Hot plasmas can be generated by fast and intense laser pulses ablating solids placed in vacuum. A Nd:YAG laser, operating at fundamental and second harmonic, emitting 9 ns pulses with a maximum energy of 900 mJ, focused on metallic surfaces, produces high ablation yields, of the order of mug/pulse, and dense plasmas which ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

First in vitro cell co-culture experiments using laser-induced high-energy electron FLASH irradiation for the development of anti-cancer therapeutic strategies

open access: yesScientific Reports
Radiation delivery at ultrahigh dose rates (UHDRs) has potential for use as a new anticancer therapeutic strategy. The FLASH effect induced by UHDR irradiation has been shown to maintain antitumour efficacy with a reduction in normal tissue toxicity ...
