Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

On-chip wide tuning of high-power quantum cascade laser based on a vertical-integrated heater

open access: yesAPL Photonics
Mid-infrared high-peak power quantum cascade lasers are highly useful in many applications such as gas sensing and free-space communication. However, practical application scenarios place further demands on the wavelength tunability and integration of ...

Mid infrared gas spectroscopy using efficient fiber laser driven photonic chip-based supercontinuum

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The mid-infrared spectral region is important for gas sensing applications. Here, Grassani et al. demonstrate efficient supercontinuum generation from fibre-lasers injected into silicon nitride waveguides to provide a turn-key mid-IR source with ...

Isotope analysis of water by means of near-infrared dual-wavelength diode laser spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A novel diode laser spectrometer was developed using dual-wavelength multiplexing, ensuring ideal conditions for high-precision and simultaneous measurements of the 2H/1H, 17O/16O, and 18O/16O isotope ratios in water.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

FROM THE HISTORY OF LASER CREATION [PDF]

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики, 2014
The paper briefly describes the history of formation of a new science direction - quantum electronics, associated with the discovery of masers and lasers by scientists from the USA (Ch. Townes) and the USSR (N.G. Basov and A. M. Prokhorov). The world's

Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

High repetition rate sealed CO2 TEA lasers using heterogeneous catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes
The significant operational advantages offered by CO2 lasers, operating in the 10.6 micron region of the spectrum, over current solid state lasers, emitting in the near IR region, have prompted increased interest in the development of compact, reliable ...

Quasimonoenergetic electron beams produced by colliding cross-polarized laser pulses in underdense plasmas

open access: yes, 2008
The interaction of two laser pulses in an underdense plasma has proven to be able to inject electrons in plasma waves, thus providing a stable and tunable source of electrons. Whereas previous works focused on the "beatwave" injection scheme in which two
