Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Toluene Oxidation by Non-Thermal Plasma Combined with Palladium Catalysts

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2013
The oxidation of toluene in air was investigated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) combined with a Pd/Al2O3 catalyst. When using only plasma, rather low selectivity towards CO2 was obtained: 32-35%.

Mammalian cell sensitivity to hyperthermia in various cell lines: a new universal and predictive description

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2020
Introduction The Cumulative Equivalent Minute at 43 °C (CEM43) thermal dose model has been empirically derived more than 30 years ago and still serves as a benchmark for hyperthermia protocols despite the advent of regulatory network models.

Wide-bandwidth mode-hop-free tuning of extended-cavity GaN diode lasers

open access: yes, 2005
We present a new approach for extended-cavity diode-laser tuning to achieve wide mode-hop-free tuning ranges. By using a multiple piezoactuated grating mount, the cavity length and grating angle in the laser can be adjusted independently, allowing mode ...

Study of millimeter wave phase shift in 40 GHz hybrid mode locked lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An investigation into using hybrid mode-locked lasers to implement millimeter wave phase shift is presented. The phase shift is measured directly using a vector network analyzer enabling straightforward characterization of such systems.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Effective Technique Using Combined CO2 Laser and Pulsed Dye Laser for Facial Angiofibromas Management in Tuberous Sclerosis

open access: yesCase Reports in Dermatological Medicine
Background. Facial angiofibromas (FAs) are a dermatological characteristic which are typically linked to tuberous sclerosis (TS). Aim. We discuss our experience, highlighting a rare occurrence of multiple FAs in a young patient, successfully treated with
