Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults

Insulin, 2006
Abstract Background: Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a relatively common form of autoimmune diabetes mellitus (DM) that is diagnosed based on the presence of DM-associated autoantibodies in patients who present with clinical features of type 2 DM.

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults

Diabetes, 2005
Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a disorder in which, despite the presence of islet antibodies at diagnosis of diabetes, the progression of autoimmune β-cell failure is slow. LADA patients are therefore not insulin requiring, at least during the first 6 months after diagnosis of diabetes.

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2002
Abstract: Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a special form of diabetes that is clinically similar to type 2 diabetes but with positivity for pancreatic autoantibodies. The frequency of LADA patients among all patients diagnosed as type 2 varies between 6‐50% in various populations. The frequency is higher in younger age groups.

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in an Adult

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2008
We report a case of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), also known as slowly progressive type 1 diabetes (SPT1D), followed up for changes, including reactivity to the GAD65 antibody epitope for the 9‐year period from impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) to the insulin‐dependent stage (IDDM).

Metabolic Syndrome in Adult-Onset Latent Autoimmune Diabetes

Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders, 2005
Background. Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is characterized by islet beta-cell loss and absolute insulin deficiency, however, studies in recent years have shown some extent of insulin resistance in LADA patients. In view of insulin resistance being the central pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome (MS), we hypothesized that MS could be found ...

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults

The Journal for Nurse Practitioners, 2008
Abstract Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a genetically linked, autoimmune form of type 1 diabetes mellitus that is commonly seen after age 30 in patients who often have a normal body mass index without overt signs of metabolic syndrome.

Latent (slowly progressing) autoimmune diabetes in adults

Current Diabetes Reports, 2008
About 10% of patients with the clinical presentation of type 2 diabetes suffer from an autoimmune form of diabetes associated with a rapid decline of residual beta-cell mass and subsequent development of insulin dependency. In this condition, called latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA), there are clinical and metabolic features intermediate ...

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults: A Case Report

American Journal of Therapeutics, 2010
Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is an autoimmune endocrine disorder in which despite the presence of antipancreatic islets antibodies in the moment of diagnostics, the progression to beta-cell secretory insufficiency is slow. It is often confused with others types of diabetes and therefore the management is frequently inadequate.

Extrapancreatic Autoimmunity in Patients With Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults

Diabetes Care, 2005
Type 1 diabetes often occurs in association with other autoimmune diseases (thyroid disease [1–3], Addison’s disease [2], celiac disease [1,3], autoimmune gastropathy [4], and others), with autoimmune thyroiditis beingthe most common (1–3). To determine whether these autoimmune diseases are also more frequent in patients with latent autoimmune diabetes

Heterogeneity among patients with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults

Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, 2011
AbstractBackgroundSome type 1 diabetic patients do not require insulin at diagnosis of diabetes, and they progress to insulin dependence only after several years (latent autoimmune diabetes in adults). However, not all patients with latent autoimmune diabetes in adults progress to insulin dependence.
