Photonic crystal thin films of GaAs prepared by atomic layer deposition [PDF]
Photonic crystal thin films were fabricated via the self-assembly of a lattice of silica spheres on silicon (100) substrates. Progressive infilling of the air spaces within the structure with GaAs was achieved using trimethylgallium and arsine under ...

Layer‐by‐Layer Self‐Assembled Ferrite Multilayer Nanofilms for Microwave Absorption [PDF]
We demonstrate a simple method for fabricating multilayer thin films containing ferrite (Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4) nanoparticles, using layer‐by‐layer (LbL) self‐assembly. These films have microwave absorbing properties for possible radar absorbing and stealth applications.

Layer‐by‐Layer Self‐Assembled Nanostructured Electrodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries [PDF]
AbstractGaining control over the nanoscale assembly of different electrode components in energy storage systems can open the door for design and fabrication of new electrode and device architectures that are not currently feasible. This work presents aqueous layer‐by‐layer (LbL) self‐assembly as a route towards design and fabrication of advanced ...

Biogenesis and functions of bacterial S-layers. [PDF]
The outer surface of many archaea and bacteria is coated with a proteinaceous surface layer (known as an S-layer), which is formed by the self-assembly of monomeric proteins into a regularly spaced, two-dimensional array.

Layer-by-layer assembly of patchy particles as a route to non-trivial structures
We propose a new strategy for robust high-quality self-assembly of non-trivial periodic structures out of patchy particles, and investigate it with Brownian Dynamics (BD) simulations.

STM study of self-assembled phthalocyanine derivatives and their hosting properties [PDF]
Molecular self-assembly, as a most studied case of self-assembly, is one of the few practical strategies for making ensembles of nano- and micro structures. As an essential aspect of the “bottom-up” approach, it is attractive for both scientific research
