The effect of the layer thickness of prepreg on the tensile properties and failure behavior of quasi-isotropic (QI) laminates of thermoplastic CFRP consisting of carbon fiber and polyamide 6 was investigated. The layer thickness of each ply was set to 40,

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Hemispheric asymmetries in the cortical structure and function are well documented, but whether this asymmetry is reflected in the electrophysiological properties of the same neuron type remains unclear, particularly given the many factors that influence

Nucleation of Ge quantum dots on the Si(001) surface
A direct observation of nucleation of Ge hut clusters formed by ultrahigh vacuum molecular beam epitaxy is reported for the first time. The nuclei of the pyramidal and wedge-like clusters have been observed on the wetting layer blocks and found to have ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

On the validity of the “thin” and “thick” double-layer assumptions when calculating streaming currents in porous media [PDF]
We find that the thin double layer assumption, in which the thickness of the electrical diffuse layer is assumed small compared to the radius of curvature of a pore or throat, is valid in a capillary tubes model so long as the capillary radius is >200 ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Multi-critical point in a diluted bilayer Heisenberg quantum antiferromagnet
The S=1/2 Heisenberg bilayer antiferromagnet with randomly removed inter-layer dimers is studied using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. A zero-temperature multi-critical point (p*,g*) at the classical percolation density p=p* and inter-layer coupling g ...
