Virginiamycin and Laying Hen Performance
Two experiments were conducted for five 28-day periods each. In Experiments 1 and 2, Hyline W-36 hens, 36 and 26 weeks of age, respectively, were used. Experiment 1 was designed to measure the effect of virginiamycin on hen performance and egg characteristics when supplementing a diet having low pigmentation potential.

Ammonia Emissions of Laying Hens as Affected by Stocking Density and Manure Accumulation Time [PDF]
Different stocking densities (SDs) or space allocations are being practiced in commercial laying-hen operations as an attempt to improve hen welfare. Information concerning the impact of SD on accumulated manure properties (e.g., moisture content) and ...

Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide Emissions vs. Feeding and Defecation Activities of Laying Hens [PDF]
This study characterizes dynamic ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with feeding and defecation activities of laying hens. Manure handling scheme used was reflective of commercial manure-belt house operation.

Examining the catching, carrying, and crating process during depopulation of end-of-lay hens
Summary: Laying hen flocks undergo depopulation at end of lay, a difficult process that has been associated with injuries and is considered stressful to hens and human collectors. To date, most assessments of depopulations have been conducted within cage
