Maatregelen ter vermindering van fijnstofemissie uit de pluimveehouderij: gescheiden bedekte strooiselruimten bij legkippen = Measures to reduce fine dust emission from poultry houses: separated covered floor bedding for laying hens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study it was investigated whether covered bedding areas are able to reduce dust emissions from laying hens. The study shows that laying hens in an aviary system preferred dust bath behaviour under the tiers.

Sustainable Digital Entrepreneurship: Sustainability as a Success Factor for Digital Start‐Ups

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates whether and how sustainability acts as a success factor for digital start‐ups. Based on qualitative interviews with 20 founders from a range of sectors—including healthcare, mobility, and industrial software—the findings show that while sustainability is not yet perceived as a primary driver of success, it increasingly ...

Safety and efficacy of ROVABIO® SPIKY (endo‐1,4‐beta‐xylanase and endo‐1,3(4)‐beta‐glucanase) as a feed additive for all major and minor poultry species

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2016
ROVABIO® SPIKY is a preparation of endo‐1,4‐beta‐xylanase and endo‐1,3(4)‐beta‐glucanase that is authorised as a feed additive for chickens and turkeys for fattening, chickens reared for laying, turkeys reared for breeding, minor poultry species for ...

Høner som gjødsel? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Laying hens are specialized for egg production, and high costs for slaughtering challenges the utilization of killed hens for food purpose. Alternative utilization, such as for production of meat and bone meal, may be hampered by lack of rendering plants.

Discovery of Sustainable Energy Materials Via the Machine‐Learned Material Space

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
State‐of‐the‐art machine learning models used in materials science are shown to construct meaningful internal representations, which can be interpreted as a map of the material space from the viewpoint of the network. It shows how this map can be used to find alternative, e.g., more sustainable materials for important optical materials, such as ...

Choline in the Nutrition of Laying Hens

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1946
Abstract Lucas, Norris and Heuser (1946) have reported observations on the choline requirements of hens. We have carried out an experiment of similar nature with results pointing in the same direction. New Hampshire pullets which had been in production for approximately six months were transferred to laying cages and given an adjustment period ...

Animal welfare and food safety: danger, risk and the distribution of responsibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Increased animal welfare may pose risks for public health, such as increased bacterial, viral or parasitic infections or an increased level of environmental contaminants in the food product.

Hydroxide Mobility in Aqueous Systems: Combining Ab Initio Accuracy with Millisecond Timescales

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A multiscale simulation strategy for hydroxide transport in aqueous potassium hydroxide is presented, integrating ab initio molecular dynamics with force field and Monte Carlo methods. The approach links femtosecond‐scale hydrogen‐bond dynamics to millisecond‐scale diffusion while maintaining near‐ab initio accuracy.

Skim Milk for Laying Hens

open access: yesJournal of the American Association of Instructors and Investigators of Poultry Husbandry, 1916
Abstract During the past three or four years, poultry raisers have been reading more or less about sour skimmed milk as a food stuff for poultry of all kinds. Particularly has the public been told through many poultry papers and station publications of the probable value of this bi-product of the dairy as a food for baby chicks.
