Mitigating Microbial Contamination in Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Using Ultraviolet C Irradiation: A Review

Although fresh produce is extremely perishable and contaminated, it is essential for good health. To eliminate important foodborne pathogens, this paper investigates UV‐C irradiation as a safe, nonthermal technique. UV dose, exposure duration, and product characteristics all affect effectiveness.

Electron Microscopy Transfer System to Protect Atmosphere‐Sensitive Materials for Scanning Electron Microscopy Characterization

SEM–EDX and XRD characterization confirm that pouches made from readily available aluminum foil, used in combination with a commercial cryo‐EM transfer system, effectively protect highly atmosphere‐sensitive and/or hygroscopic materials from contamination during transfer from inert environments to the SEM vacuum chamber.

According to the ‘nest protection hypothesis', some passerines incorporate fresh aromatic plants into their nests which reduce pathogens that can negatively affect nestlings. We experimentally evaluated the effect of five aromatic plant species on the nest bacterial microbiota of Corsican blue tits Cyanistes caeruleus.
