Parasitic contamination of leafy vegetables: a function of the leaf area index (lai)

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences, 2003
A survey was undertaken to determine the degree of contamination of some stable vegetables and their surrounding soils by parasites in Uyo, Nigeria. Out of the 780 leaves from six vegetables and 50 soil samples screened, 498 (63.9%) of vegetables and 36 (72%) of the soil samples were positive for parasite ova, larvae or cyst respectively.

Childhood Linear Growth and Early Morbidity as Predictors of Adolescent Cognitive Ability in Malawi: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Growth faltering and loss of development potential are common in low‐ and middle‐income countries. We aimed to study whether linear growth before and after 2 years, height‐for‐age Z‐score (HAZ) from 1 month until 13 years and morbidity during the first 3 years predict adolescent cognitive ability.

A three-part geometric model to predict the radar backscatter from wheat, corn, and sorghum [PDF]

open access: yes
A model to predict the radar backscattering coefficient from crops must include the geometry of the canopy. Radar and ground-truth data taken on wheat in 1979 indicate that the model must include contributions from the leaves, from the wheat head, and ...

Field spectrometer to measure percent ground coverage and leaf area index of agriculture crops [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Measurement of percent ground cover (PGC) and leaf area index (LAI) are required for crop modelling, yield estimation and for ground truth data in remote sensing studies.

The Recruitment and Retention of Individuals With Intellectual Disability in Randomized Controlled Trials: A Scoping Review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Learning Disabilities, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background People with intellectual disabilities face significant health disparities and often encounter barriers in accessing healthcare services. Although research supports the need for reasonable adjustments to improve healthcare access for this population, implementation in acute healthcare settings remains limited.

Exploring the Effects of Topography on Leaf Area Index Retrieved from Remote Sensing Data at Various Spatial Scales over Rugged Terrains

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Topography significantly affects remotely sensed reflectance data and subsequently impacts the retrieval of the leaf area index (LAI) from surface reflectance data over rugged terrains.

Measurement of surface physical properties and radiation balance for KUREX-91 study [PDF]

open access: yes
Biophysical properties and radiation balance components were measured at the Streletskaya Steppe Reserve of the Russian Republic in July 1991. Steppe vegetation parameters characterized include leaf area index (LAI), leaf angle distribution, mean tilt ...
