Annual Review of Psychology, 1987
There have been several notable recent trends in the area of learning and memory. Problems with the episodic/semantic distinction have become more apparent, and new efforts have been made (exemplar models, distributed-memory models) to represent general knowledge without assuming a separate semantic system.

Memory, learning and neuromediators
Biosystems, 1991We consider a model of a neural network where the individual cells interact only by releasing and absorbing the molecules of a neuromediator. We show that such a system can realize the function of associative memory. A learning mechanism based on the chemotaxis is proposed and numerically investigated.
