Fermented mistletoe extract as a multimodal antitumoral agent in gliomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In Europe, commercially available extracts from the white-berry mistletoe (Viscum album L.) are widely used as a complementary cancer therapy. Mistletoe lectins have been identified as main active components and exhibit cytotoxic effects as well as ...

Nanoscopic Mapping of the Extracellular Space in Amyloid Plaque‐rich Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The extracellular space and diffusion around amyloid plaques are examined using shadow imaging and single‐particle tracking. Increased diffusivity is found near plaques, extracellular matrix alterations, and plaque core penetrability that varies with amyloid phenotype.

Diazine Endo‐Functionalized Tetraphenylethylene‐Based Cyclo[6]arenes for Molecular Recognition in Both Solution and Aggregate States

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
To overcome poor molecular recognition in dilute solutions of tetraphenylethylene‐embedded cyclo[6]arenes, three macrocycles with functionalized cavities featuring diazine groups as endo‐binding sites are synthesized. Their recognition affinity continuously improves with increasing hydrogen‐bond acceptance of diazine groups.

Development of Lectin-Linked Immunomagnetic Separation for the Detection of Hepatitis A Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2014
The accuracy and sensitivity of PCR-based methods for detection of hepatitis A virus (HAV) are dependent on the methods used to separate and concentrate the HAV from the infected cells.

Tissue‐Resident Myeloid and Histiocytic Cells in Health and Disease: Novel Emerging Concepts

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although all myeloid cells are considered to derive from hematopoietic stem cells, the cells in each myeloid lineage are heterogeneous populations, and their distribution and functions vary, depending on underlying physiologic and pathologic processes, age, sex, and genetic and epigenetic signatures.

Laboratory study of the effects of leek lectin (APA) in transgenic tobacco plants on the development of cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2009
Transgenic tobacco plants expressing the Allium porrum L. (leek) agglutinin (called APA) under the control of the 35S constitutive promoter were tested for their insecticidal activity against the cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Lepidoptera ...

Treg Cells Modulate Neuroinflammation and Behavioral Deficits in Autism: Evidence From MR‐Based Genetic Analyses and Experimental Models

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part B: Neuropsychiatric Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that is increasingly linked to immune dysfunction and neuroinflammation. Regulatory T cells (Tregs), which are crucial in maintaining immune homeostasis, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ASD.
