Two C-type lectins from shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei that might be involved in immune response against bacteria and virus

open access: yes, 2012
C-type lectins play crucial roles in innate immunity to recognize and eliminate pathogens efficiently. In the present study, two C-type lectins from shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (designated as LvLectin-1 and LvLectin-2) were identified, and their ...

Signaling pathways for transduction of the initial message of the glycocode into cellular responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The sugar units of glycan structures store information and establish an alphabet of life. The language of the oligosaccharide coding units is deciphered by receptors such as lectins and the decoded message can be transduced by multiple signaling pathways.

C-Type Lectin Receptors in Host Defense

open access: yesAnnual Review of Immunology
C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) present on myeloid cells provide crucial signals for the induction of innate and adaptive immune responses. Their broad ligand specificity places them in a perfect position to sense both microbial intruders and signs of tissue injury or cell death.

C-Type Lectins in Innate Immunity to Pathogens

open access: yesTrends in Glycoscience and Glycotechnology, 2004

A single-pass type I membrane protein, mannose-specific L-type lectin, potentially involved in the adhesion and invasion of Cryptosporidium parvum

open access: yesParasite
Cryptosporidium is a globally distributed zoonotic protozoan parasite that can cause severe diarrhea in humans and animals. L-type lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins involved in multiple pathways in animals and plants, including protein ...

Mechanistic insights into the role of C-type lectin receptor/CARD9 signaling in human antifungal immunity

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2016
Human CARD9 deficiency is an autosomal recessive primary immunodeficiency disorder caused by biallelic mutations in the gene CARD9, which encodes a signaling protein that is found downstream of many C-type lectin receptors (CLRs).

Recent insights into structures and functions of C-type lectins in the immune system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The majority of the C-type lectin-like domains in the human genome likely to bind sugars have been investigated structurally, although novel mechanisms of sugar binding are still being discovered.

Extracellular vesicles from CLEC2-activated platelets enhance dengue virus-induced lethality via CLEC5A/TLR2

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Dengue virus (DENV) promotes leukocyte-platelet interactions that contribute to pathogenesis. Here, the authors report a role for C-type lectins CLEC2 and CLEC5A in platelet activation and NET formation and show that blockade of CLEC5A and TLR2 ...
