Tau Aggregate Imaging and Transcriptomics of Alzheimer's Disease Brain at Different Stages of Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The protein aggregates and gene expression in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) and somatosensory cortex (SOM) of the postmortem brains of 13 Alzheimer's disease patients were studied in detail, revealing that small hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates increase with Braak stage driven by microglial inflammation.

Deciphering Biomarkers for Leptomeningeal Metastasis in Malignant Hemopathies (Lymphoma/Leukemia) Patients by Comprehensive Multipronged Proteomics Characterization of Cerebrospinal Fluid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In the present work, leptomeningeal disease, a very destructive form of systemic cancer, was characterized from several proteomics points of view. This pathology involves the invasion of the leptomeninges by malignant tumor cells.

Drug Repurposing for Treating NCOR‐Related Intellectual Disability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An autism‐associated NCOR1 heterozygous mutation upregulates NRGs and activates NRG backward signaling in hypothalamic GABAergic neurons in mouse models, leading to Gabra2 downregulation and cognitive deficits, which can be therapeutically targeted by repurposing FDA‐approved drugs.

Population-Based Real-World Outcomes of Post-Operative Adjuvant Brain Cavity Radiotherapy Versus Observation

open access: yesCurrent Oncology
To evaluate the factors influencing the outcomes of patients who underwent surgical resection of brain metastasis followed by either surveillance or post-operative stereotactic radiosurgery/fractionated radiotherapy (SRS/SFRT), a retrospective multi ...

Early‐Life Manganese Overexposure Activates Microglial Phagocytosis through the YY1/TREM2 Axis Leading to Hippocampal Synaptic Remodeling in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early‐life manganese exposure induces behavioral deficits and aberrant hippocampal synaptic remodeling by enhancing microglial phagocytosis in young adult male mice. Mechanistically, manganese promotes Yin Yang 1 (YY1)/triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) signaling through enhanced HIF1α‐mediated transcription and suppressed SMURF2 ...

Leptomeningeal Metastasis with Perivascular Invasion in a Case of Breast Carcinoma: A Radiological Perspective

open access: yesJournal of Medical Sciences
Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is an under-recognized radiological entity that often mimics classic leptomeningeal disease but presents with perivascular invasion.

Oral Actinomyces Species Exposure is Associated with Anxiety‐Like Behavior, Mitochondrial Remodeling, and Altered GABAergic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oral exposure to cannabis‐associated Actinomyces species, particularly A. meyeri, is associated with anxiety‐like behavior in mice in the absence of detectable bacterial translocation or overt systemic inflammation. These findings support a potential oral‐brain metabolic axis involving candidate metabolites such as arginine and argininosuccinate ...

A review on intrathecal administration of medications for leptomeningeal metastases in solid tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) is a particular mode of central metastasis in malignant tumors. It occurs when tumor cells infiltrate the subarachnoid space and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), spreading throughout the central nervous system (CNS).

Growth Differentiation Factor 15 as a Cerebrospinal Fluid Biomarker for the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Leptomeningeal Metastasis

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective As leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) has a poor prognosis, reliable cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) diagnostic biomarkers are urgently needed. This study evaluated the diagnostic value of CSF growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) in LM from lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and breast cancer (BC).

Management and survival of patients with leptomeningeal disease from breast cancer: a case series

open access: yes, 2017
Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) in breast cancer is a rare complication and often portends a poor prognosis. There is a lack of randomized data guiding treatment decisions and no accepted standard of care in the management of LMD.
