Current concepts in leptomeningeal metastasis
Current Opinion in Oncology, 1992Leptomeningeal metastasis is a common neurologic disorder affecting the entire neuraxis in patients with metastatic systemic cancer and primary brain tumors. The clinical presentation of leptomeningeal metastasis is pleomorphic and commonly affects the cerebral hemispheres, cranial nerves, or spinal cord and its roots.

Leptomeningeal Metastasis from Supratentorial Malignant Gliomas
Neurosurgery, 1986Abstract The clinical and diagnostic findings in 13 patients with leptomeningeal metastasis from supratentorial malignant gliomas are reported. Criteria for inclusion in this study were positive myelographic examination, positive cerebrospinal fluid cytology on two or more samples, or evidence of leptomeningeal seeding at autopsy.

Leptomeningeal Metastasis From Systemic Cancer
Continuum, 2012Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is an uncommon, usually late, complication of cancer. This article discusses the clinical presentation, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of LM.Neither gadolinium-enhanced MRI nor CSF cytology is adequately sensitive to diagnose all cases of LM.Patients with LM classically present with multifocal neurologic symptoms and

Abstract Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is a late complication of systemic cancer and is associated with substantial neurologic morbidity and mortality. All patients with suspected LM should undergo cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis (including flow cytometry, if lymphoma or leukemia is suspected) and contrast-enhanced neuroimaging of ...

Breast cancer leptomeningeal metastasis.
Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2011e11524 Background: Breast cancer leptomeningeal metastasis(BLM) occurs in approximately 5% of patients with metastatic breast cancer and, due to the lack of an established treatment, these patients have an extremely poor prognosis. Methods: The clinical characteristics of BML and outcomes were investigated in 14 patients at our Center between 2004 and ...

Leptomeningeal metastasis: MR imaging.
Radiology, 1987Seven patients with central nervous system neoplasia and leptomeningeal metastases, proved either at initial diagnosis or on follow-up with contrast material-enhanced computed tomography (CT), were evaluated with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. In two patients, diffuse sulcal enhancement on CT scans was inapparent on T1- or T2-weighted MR images ...

Current diagnosis and treatment of leptomeningeal metastasis
Journal of Neuro-Oncology, 1998Meningeal metastasis occurs in 3-8% of all cancer patients, producing neurologic morbidity and a high mortality. Diagnosis is best established by the demonstration of malignant cells in the cerebrospinal fluid. However, in patients with known cancer, MR scan with gadolinium may be diagnostic when subarachnoid nodules can be demonstrated in the head or ...
