Some characteristics of terpenoid biosynthesis by leucoplasts of Citrofortunella mitis

Planta, 1987
The capacity of leucoplasts to synthesize monoterpene hydrocarbons has been further investigated by studying the synthesis of higher-terpene homologues. Isolated leucoplasts were unable to esterify chlorophyllides into chlorophylls and to synthesize carotenoids. In addition, the later steps of α-tocopherol and phylloquinone synthesis were not performed.

Leucoplasts Mimicking Membranous Chromoplasts

Zeitschrift Für Pflanzenphysiologie, 1980
Summary Leucoplasts of coronae of a variety of the daffodil ( Narcissus pseudonarcissus L.) with white flowers (cv. «Mount Hood») exhibit the same fine structural appearance as membranous chromoplasts of the wild type. Their concentric internal membranes are — except for the absence of carotenoids — virtually identical with chromoplast internal ...

Differentiation of leucoplasts: Comparative transition of proplastids to chloroplasts or leucoplasts in trichomes ofStachys lanata leaves

Protoplasma, 1988
The development of proplastids to chloroplasts or leucoplasts was followed in uniseriate nonglandular hairs, containing chloroplasts, and in glandular hairs, containing leucoplasts, ofStachys lanata leaves. Both hairs grow at the same time from the epidermis.

Spatial organization and volume density of leucoplasts in pine secretory cells

open access: yesProtoplasma, 1987
Spatial reconstructions of pine leucoplasts were obtained from thin serial sections of resin duct cells. Plastid volume and envelope surface were estimated using morphometric methods and compared to chloroplasts of adjacent parenchyma cells. The high number of plastid sections in secretory cells is not related to leucoplast division occurring during ...

Monoterpene formation by leucoplasts of Citrofortunella mitis and Citrus unshiu

Plant Cell Reports, 1986
Leucoplasts of immature calamondin and satsuma fruits were incubated with [1-(14)C] isopentenyl pyrophosphate under various conditions. Optimal incorporation of the tracer into geranyl pyrophosphate and monoterpene hydrocarbons occurred in the presence of exogenous dimethylallyl pyrophosphate and Mn(2+) which was more effective than Mg(2+).

Carbohydrate oxidation by leucoplasts from suspension cultures of soybean (Glycine max L.)

Planta, 1993
The aim of this work was to discover how leucoplasts from suspension cultures of soybean (Glycine max L.) oxidize hexose monophosphates. Leucoplasts were isolated from protoplast lysates on a continuous gradient of Nycodenz with a yield of 28% and an intactness of 80%.

Comparative Study on Redox State of Ascorbic Acid and Ascorbate Oxidase Activity in Vacuoles and Leucoplasts of Red Beet Taproots during Physiological Dormancy

Russian Journal of Plant Physiology, 2021
Vacuoles and leucoplasts were isolated from red beet (Beta vulgaris L.) taproots and compared in terms of ascorbic acid concentration and ascorbate oxidase (AO) activity. The total amount of ascorbic acid (AAtot) was greater in vacuoles than in the plastids.

Efficient control of root-knot nematodes by expressing Bt nematicidal proteins in root leucoplasts

Molecular Plant
Root-knot nematodes (RKNs) are plant pests that infect the roots of host plants. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) nematicidal proteins exhibited toxicity to nematodes. However, the application of nematicidal proteins for plant protection is hampered by the lack of effective delivery systems in transgenic plants. In this study, we discovered the accumulation
