Monoterpene hydrocarbon biosynthesis by isolated leucoplasts of Citrofortunella mitis
Planta, 1983A plastid vesicle preparation isolated from exocarpium of young Citrofortunella mitis (calamondin) fruits was able to synthesise monoterpene hydrocarbons when incubated with isopentenyl pyrophosphate. The electron-microscope comparison between this organelle fraction and the various plastid classes present in the peel tissues has shown the structural ...

Actinic cheilitis is a potentially malignant lesion that occurs by chronic exposure of the lips to ultraviolet rays, which are the main etiologic agent of squamous cell carcinoma affecting the lower lip. A 67-year-old male patient with a complaint of multiple white stains in this region with 2-months evolution time was selected.

Leucoplast Isolation and Subfractionation
2016Leucoplasts are colorless plastids of nonphotosynthetic plant tissues that support a variety of anabolic roles, particularly the biosynthesis of long-chain fatty acids in storage tissues of developing oil seeds. They also perform other important metabolic functions including the biosynthesis of amino acids and tetrapyrrole compounds.

Plastidic pyruvate kinase (PK(p)) from Brassica napus suspension cells was purified 431-fold to a final specific activity of 28 micromol phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) utilized/min/mg protein. SDS-PAGE, immunoblot and gel filtration analyses indicated that this PK(p) exists as a 380-kDa heterohexamer composed of equal proportions of 64- (alpha-subunit) and ...

Behavior of leucoplast nucleoids in the epidermal cell of onion (Allium cepa) bulb
Protoplasma, 1982The behavior of nucleoids during the leucoplast division cycle in the epidermis of onion (Allium cepa) bulbs was investigated using DNA-specific fluorochrome 4'6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining. The leucoplast was morphologically amoeboid and continuously changed its shape.

High-efficiency leucoplast transit peptides for manipulating plastid protein production
Nature PlantsPlastids develop into nutrient-storing leucoplasts in seeds and roots. Efficient protein delivery is essential to modify biosynthetic processes in leucoplasts for human needs, but no effective transit peptide for leucoplasts is currently available. Here, using an in vitro leucoplast import system, we have identified six high-efficiency transit peptides.

Fatty Acid Synthesis in Leucoplasts Isolated from Developing Seeds of Brassica campestris
Journal of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1996Fatty acid synthesis from Na (1-14C) acetate in leucoplasts isolated from developing seeds of Brassica compestris was found to be maximum when leucoplasts were supplied with 0.8 mM acetate, 20 mM NaHCO3, 8 mM ATP, 8 mM MgCl2, 4 mM MnCl2, 0.6 mM CoA, 1 mM NADH, 1 mM NADPH and 0.2 M sorbitol and incubated at 30°C for 2 h. The rate of fatty acid synthesis

The role of glutathione in the plant vacuole is still being debated. In the present paper, the redox state of glutathione and the activity of glutathione S-transferase (GST, E 2.5.1.18) in the vacuole compared to those in leucoplast have been studied. Organelles were isolated from dormant red beet (Beta vulgaris L.) taproots.

[Seasonal rhythmics of the leucoplast structure in bulb scales of Scilla sibirica L].
Tsitologiia, 2006A study was made of seasonal changes in plastids of ground tissue cells of bulb scales in early-spring ephemeroid Scilla sibirica L. In summer, plastids are represented by typical amyloplasts, with their main volume (97.0 +/- 4.3%) being occupied by one large starch grain. The volume fraction of plastid stroma is at its minimum.
