Transcriptomics reveals the molecular mechanisms of flesh colour differences in eggplant (Solanum melongena) [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2023
Background Fruit flesh colour is not only an important commodity attribute of eggplant but is also closely related to maturity. However, very little is known about its formation mechanism in eggplant. Results Two inbred lines of eggplant, green 'NC7' and

Somatic embryogenesis in Lolium multiflorum suspension culture [PDF]

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
The embryogenic cell suspension was obtained from immature embryos of Lolium multiflorum through a callus culture. Somatic embryogenesis was induced by addition of 2,4-D, dicamba and picloram in 0,5 mg/l concentrations in MS liquid nutrient medium.

The structure of nectary of Platanthera bifolia L. Orchidaceae [PDF]

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
The anatomy and ultrastructure of floral nectary of Platanthera bifolia were studied. The epidermis inside the nectary spur showed characteristic features of secretory tissue. Many cells of this epidermis were protruded forming unicellular hairs.

Vestigial Plastids in Parasitic Plants: Evolutionary Remnants or Adaptive Innovations? [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Cell Environ
ABSTRACT Throughout the evolutionary history of plants, chloroplasts originating from a cyanobacterial endosymbiosis have undergone remarkable adaptation and specialization, giving rise to a multitude of plastid types. The evolution toward parasitism in plants represents a particularly extreme case of such specialization.

Chromoplast biogenesis in Chelidonium majus petals

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
The differentiation of chromoplasts, with special emphasis on the formation and the organisation of chromoplast fibrils, was followed in the petals of the greater celandine, Chelidonium majus L.

Ultrastructure of cells in an initiating lateral root primordium of Raphanus sativus

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2015
Lateral root primordia in Raphanus sativus had developed 10 hours after main root decapitation. The primordia consisted of three cell layers — basal layer continuous with the pericycle. The primordia were initiated by activated groups of pericycle cells.

Intra-annual transfer of hydrogen and oxygen isotopic signals from water and sugar precursors to tree rings: Processes and mechanisms. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Intra‐annual radial growth of beech and spruce in 2021 and 2022. Summary The oxygen (δ18O) and hydrogen (δ2H) isotope compositions of leaf and xylem water shape tree‐ring isotope baselines, while the fraction of sugars undergoing isotopic modification downstream of leaves (fO, fH) determines the dominant hydrologic signal.

Thirty years of glyphosate-resistant crops and weeds: Current situation and future prospects. [PDF]

open access: yesPest Manag Sci
Since 1996, when the first glyphosate‐resistant crop was commercialized and the first resistant weed was reported, resistance has expanded globally. This review analyzes emergence patterns across weed species, crops, regions, resistance mechanisms, and herbicides.

Changes in the ultrastructure of Capsicum annuum L. seedlings roots under aluminum stress conditions [PDF]

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2012
The effect of aluminum was investigated on the cell ultrastructure of roots of fourteen-day-old 'Trapez' red pepper seedlings grown in water culture. Disorders in the cell structure were observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
