Estimation and characterization of hamster leukocyte elastase
Biochemical Medicine, 1982Abstract A method is described for the preparation of granule extract from hamster polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The presence of elastase in this extract has been ascertained by the dual criteria of elastin solubilization and synthetic elastase substrate hydrolysis. The extract is also able to cleave one out of three cathepsin-G substrates.

Reperfusion-induced leukocyte infiltration: role of elastase
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1990Polymorphonuclear leukocytes are known to accumulate in tissues subjected to ischemia and reperfusion. Studies on endothelial cell monolayers suggest that limited release of elastase plays an important role, via basement membrane degradation, in the leukocyte diapedesis and extravasation elicited by proinflammatory mediators.

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976Porcine and bovine elastins were digested by human leukocyte elastase and porcine pancreatic elastase. The enzymes showed similarities in the extent to which they digested elastin and the pattern and quantitative distribution of N-terminal amino acids in the digests.
