Numerical Simulation of Microscale Oblique Droplet Impact on Liquid Film

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
The oblique impact of microscale water droplets on liquid film is numerically investigated. Two-phase flow problems are simulated using three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and the level-set method is employed for capturing the gas ...

Volume sculpting using the level-set method [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings SMI. Shape Modeling International 2002, 2003
In this paper, we propose the use of the level-set method as the underlying technology of a volume sculpting system. The main motivation is that this leads to a very generic technique for deformation of volumetric solids. In addition, our method preserves a distance field volume representation.

A level-set method for shape optimization

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique, 2002
We study a level-set method for numerical shape optimization of elastic structures. Our approach combines the level-set algorithm of Osher and Sethian with the classical shape gradient. Although this method is not specifically designed for topology optimization, it can easily handle topology changes for a very large class of objective functions.

A Deep Level Set Method for Image Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes a novel image segmentation approachthat integrates fully convolutional networks (FCNs) with a level setmodel. Compared with a FCN, the integrated method can incorporatesmoothing and prior information to achieve an accurate segmentation.Furthermore, different than using the level set model as a post-processingtool, we integrate it ...

Numerical Simulation of Bubble Growth in Liquid Jet Impingement on a Hot Plate

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2012
Complete numerical simulations are performed for bubble growth in water jet impingement on a hot plate. The governing equations for the conservation of mass, momentum and energy are numerically solved in the liquid, vapor and air phases. The liquid-vapor

A Stabilized Finite Element Framework for Anisotropic Adaptive Topology Optimization of Incompressible Fluid Flows

open access: yesFluids, 2023
This paper assesses the feasibility of performing topology optimization of laminar incompressible flows governed by the steady-state Navier–Stokes equations using anisotropic mesh adaptation to achieve a high-fidelity description of all fluid–solid ...

An adaptive algorithm for shape optimization

open access: yesExamples and Counterexamples
The numerical investigation of shape optimization problems is both computationally and theoretically more complex than solving direct analysis problems using the finite element method.
