Genomic Insights Into Carbapenem‐Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in Pediatric Bloodstream Infections in Zhejiang, China (2019–2024)

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
The primary mechanism of carbapenem resistance identified in pediatric CRKP‐BSI strains was the production of Class B metalloenzymes. We report, for the first time, an outbreak of bloodstream infections in a neonatal ward caused by the dissemination of NDM‐1‐producing ST25 K. pneumoniae.

Streamlining antibiotic use in community acquired pneumonia: A quality improvement initiative

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Evidence suggests a 3‐day total duration and early transition to oral therapy is safe in hospitalized patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP)—though such care is not standard in the United States. To implement these evidence‐based practices, a multidisciplinary group led by a hospitalist and antimicrobial stewardship ...

Can we prevent antimicrobial resistance by using antimicrobials better? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Since their development over 60 years ago, antimicrobials have become an integral part of healthcare practice worldwide. Recently, this has been put in jeopardy by the emergence of widespread antimicrobial resistance, which is one of the major problems ...

Ultrasound‐Guided Transperineal Versus Transrectal Prostate Aspiration Biopsy in Diagnosing Prostate Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, EarlyView.
Background Ultrasound‐guided prostate biopsy is the standard method for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, the effect of the optimal puncture approach on diagnostic yield and patient outcomes remains controversial. Objective To compare the diagnostic effectiveness and clinical outcomes of ultrasound‐guided transperineal versus transrectal ...

Meropenem Prevents Levofloxacin-Induced Resistance in Penicillin-Resistant Pneumococci and Acts Synergistically with Levofloxacin in Experimental Meningitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential synergy between meropenem and levofloxacin in vitro and in experimental meningitis and to determine the effect of meropenem on levofloxacin-induced resistance in vitro. Meropenem increased the

Novel reference gene microseminoprotein‐beta based prostate cancer antigen 3 urine test: Enhanced diagnostic performance for prostate cancer and feasibility of non‐digital rectal examination urine sampling

open access: yesUroPrecision, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) is limited by low specificity and invasiveness. This study aims to establish a highly accurate, noninvasive reverse transcription‐quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT‐qPCR)‐based urinary prostate cancer antigen 3 (PCA3) assay system and explore the feasibility of using first‐morning urine

Detecting Efflux Pumps Genes in the Fluoroquinolones Resistant and Sensitive Strains of Escherichia coli in Patients with Urinary Tract Infection in Qom, Iran

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2021
Background and Objectives: Efflux pumps are among the main mechanisms for antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli (E.coli) strains. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between 5 efflux pump genes; acrA, acrB, emrA, emrB, and mdtk ...
