How generics obscure the logic of conditionals
Mind &Language, EarlyView.This paper discusses counter‐examples to modus ponens and modus tollens involving modals and quantificational adverbs, and presents new counter‐examples with generic conditionals. We argue that the counter‐examples are spurious, and are explained by the domain‐restricting effects of if‐clauses.

Teleosemantics for neural word embeddings

The determination of what is said and what is implied
Mind &Language, EarlyView.Is what is said determined by syntax, conventional meaning, and select aspects of context? This thesis—semanticity—seems plausible because what is said can diverge from both what the speaker means and what the addressee understands, and because ordinary speakers know what is said when presented with a novel sentence‐context pair.

Modern Theology, EarlyView.Abstract This article reconsiders Jacques Maritain's philosophical poetics by situating it within his longstanding debate with Maurice Blondel over the nature and unity of intellect. I argue that Maritain's influential defence of artistic autonomy, first articulated in Art et scolastique (1920), is ultimately unsound.
