Upregulation of the Tim-3/galectin-9 pathway of T cell exhaustion in chronic hepatitis B virus infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The S-type lectin galectin-9 binds to the negative regulatory molecule Tim-3 on T cells and induces their apoptotic deletion or functional inactivation.

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Association between social determinants of health and overactive bladder: exploring the role of cardiovascular health in a cross-sectional analysis

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background The potential connection between social determinants of health (SDoH), cardiovascular health, and overactive bladder (OAB) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the associations between cumulative and individual unfavorable SDoH and

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Associations between Life’s Crucial 9 and severity, all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular mortality in individuals with cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome: the mediating role of phenotypic age acceleration

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
ObjectiveThe American Heart Association (AHA) recently introduced the concept of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome. This study aimed to explore the associations of Life’s Crucial 9 (LC9), the recently updated lifestyle guidelines for ...

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Examining the mediating function of SIRI in the association between LC9 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
BackgroundChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major contributor to early mortality, high overall mortality rates, and significant healthcare costs. Based on the Life’s Essential 8 (LE8), Life’s Crucial 9 (LC9) is a new cardiovascular health

ADP‐ribosylation: An emerging regulator of the epigenome

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ADP‐ribosylation has emerged as a dynamic epigenetic signaling mechanism that modifies histones and chromatin‐associated proteins. Through coordinated PARylation and MARylation, it integrates with other histone modifications to regulate chromatin structure, transcription factor activity, and gene expression, influencing genome function and disease ...

Unraveling the epigenetic code in cancer cell–tumor microenvironment crosstalk

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epigenetic regulation is a key driver of cancer development and progression. Diverse epigenetic alterations in cancer cells and components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrate their communication through multiple mechanisms. We discuss how the epigenetic code coordinates bidirectional cancer cell–TME crosstalk to promote cancer progression ...
