Longitudinal cross-lagged analysis of depression, loneliness, and quality of life in 12 European countries

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background In the older population, depression, loneliness, and quality of life are closely related, significantly influencing health status. This paper aimed (1) to investigate autoregressive and cross-lagged associations over 2 years between depression,

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Evaluating acceptability and experiences of pregnant women at high risk of developing gestational diabetes who take part in antenatal intervention trials: a qualitative systematic review

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth
Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with short- and longer-term adverse outcomes for both mother and child. The success of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing interventions to prevent GDM depends in part on participant ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

ABOVE: cerclage after caesarean: protocol for a randomised controlled trial to assess the optimal preventative management for preterm birth secondary to caesarean section damage

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth
Background There is emerging evidence that caesarean section in labour is associated with an increased risk of recurrent mid-trimester loss (MTL) and spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) in subsequent pregnancies.

Early childhood and the life course [PDF]

open access: yes
What happens to children in the early years has consequences right through the course of their lives. There are many opportunities to intervene and make a difference to the lives of children and young people.
