Life expectancy [PDF]

open access: yes
We give simple upper and lower bounds on life expectancy. In a life-table population, if e(0) is the life expectancy at birth, M is the median length of life, and e(M) is the expected remaining life at age M, then (M+e(M))/2≤e(0)≤M+e(M)/2.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

United States life tables,\ua02000

open access: yes
This report presents period life tables for the United States based on age-specific death rates in 2000. Data used to prepare these life tables are 2000 final mortality statistics; July 1, 2000, population estimates based on the 1990 decennial census ...

Analysis of Portuguese Life Tables

open access: yes, 2007
In 1995 life tables commissioned by the Portuguese Insurance Institute were obtained. This life tables were then validated and are now updated.

Found in translation?: A cohort perspective on tempo-adjusted life expectancy

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2006
What does tempo-adjusted period life expectancy measure? Taking a cohort perspective, I show that under conditions of constant linear mortality shifts the tempo-adjusted period indicator translates exactly to the cohort born e¤0 (t) years earlier.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

An extension of relational methods in mortality estimations [PDF]

open access: yes
Actuaries and demographers have a long tradition of utilising collateral data to improve mortality estimates. Three main approaches have been used to accomplish the improvement- mortality laws, model life tables, and relational methods. The present paper

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Prediction of life expectancy using the Lee-Carter model

open access: yes, 2013
The ageing of the population is a problem of many European countries including the Czech Republic. This problem is related to two main factors, the increase of life expectancy and the decline of birth rate.
