Magnetic skyrmion annihilation by quantum mechanical tunneling

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
Magnetic skyrmions are nano-scale magnetic states that could be used in various spintronics devices. A central issue is the mechanism and rate of various possible annihilation processes and the lifetime of metastable skyrmions.

Reduction of Statistical Power Per Event Due to Upper Lifetime Cuts in Lifetime Measurements

open access: yes, 2007
A cut on the maximum lifetime in a lifetime fit not only reduces the number of events, but also, in some circumstances dramatically, decreases the statistical significance of each event.

Lifestyle Behaviors and Cardiotoxic Treatment Risks in Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Higher doses of anthracyclines and heart‐relevant radiotherapy increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study assessed CVD and CVD risk factors among adult childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) across cardiotoxic treatment risk groups and examined associations between lifestyle behaviors and treatment risks.

Bisphosphonate compliance in Japan from the perspective of product, formulation, and patient characteristics: analysis of medical insurance claim data

open access: yesJournal of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences
Background Bisphosphonates are the mainstay drugs for osteoporosis, but in clinical practice, they are often ineffective due to low compliance. However, there have been few studies examining compliance on a product-by-product basis or in detail in Japan.

Theory and it ab initio calculation of radiative lifetime of excitons in semiconducting carbon nanotubes

open access: yes, 2005
We present theoretical analysis and first-principles calculation of the radiative lifetime of excitons in semiconducting carbon nanotubes. An intrinsic lifetime of the order of 10 ps is computed for the lowest optically active bright excitons.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.
