Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Time-Dependent Dielectric Breakdown of Commercial 1.2 kV 4H-SiC Power MOSFETs

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2021
Constant-voltage time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB) measurements are performed on recently manufactured commercial 1.2 kV 4H-SiC power metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) from three vendors.

Growth Maximising Patent Lifetime [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2000
Using a vertical differentiation model of endogenous growth with stochastic R&D activity, we characterise the optimal patent lifetime a government would set in order to maximise economic growth. We show that a finite patent lifetime does exist and is unique provided that the expected rate of return from R&D is sufficiently large.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Time-resolved Photoluminescence Characterisation of GaAs/AlxGa1–xAs Structures Designed for Microwave and Terahertz Detectors

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2014
The time-resolved photoluminescence of donor Si-doped GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs (x = 0.3 0.25, 0.2, 0.1) structures designed for microwave and terahertz detectors have been investigated at T = 3.6 K temperature.

A Detailed Study of Electronic and Dynamic Properties of Noble Gas–Oxygen Molecule Adducts

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
In this work, the binding features of adducts formed by a noble gas (Ng = He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn) atom and the oxygen molecule (O2) in its ground Σg−3, in the past target of several experimental studies, have been characterized under different ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
