Lifts and vertex pairs in solvable groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Suppose $G$ is a $p$-solvable group, where $p$ is odd. We explore the connection between lifts of Brauer characters of $G$ and certain local objects in $G$, called vertex pairs.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Tailored composite wings with elastically produced chordwise camber [PDF]

open access: yes
Four structural concepts were created which produce chordwise camber deformation that results in enhanced lift. A wing box can be tailored to utilize each of these with composites.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Ligation of fistulas of rectum in intersphincteric layer: the pilot study

open access: yesРоссийский журнал гастроэнтерологии, гепатологии, колопроктологии, 2012
Aim of investigation. Ligation of fistulous tract in intersphincteric layer (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract – LIFT) – is a new method of surgical treatment of trans- and extrasphincter fistulas.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF DISK SPRING CONFIGURATIONS WITH REGARD TO LOAD CAPACITY OF SAFETY PROGRESSIVE GEARS [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Computer Science, 2016
The paper investigates the effect of various disk spring package configurations on brake load of safety progressive gears. The numerical analysis is performed using the Abaqus/CAE software and the designed 3D models.

Iterative calculus on tangent floors

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica, 2016
Tangent fibrations generate a “multi-floored tower”, while raising from one of its floors to the next one, one practically reiterates the previously performed actions. In this way, the "tower" admits a ladder-shaped structure. Raising to the first floors
