Rapid pathogen identification and phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility directly from urine specimens

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Implementing effective antimicrobial therapy close to the onset of infection lowers morbidity and mortality and attenuates the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Distinct dysregulated pathways in sporadic and Lynch syndrome‐associated colorectal cancer offer insights for targeted treatment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study explores the distinct molecular mechanisms underlying Lynch syndrome‐associated and sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC). By highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting the PI3K‐Akt pathway in Lynch syndrome‐associated CRC and the Wnt pathway in sporadic CRC, the findings open avenues for personalised treatment strategies, aiming to ...

Light Triggers the Search for Light [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2019
Plants rely on light for photosynthesis. As a consequence, plant growth is strongly shaped by light availability, to optimize photon absorbance in the green tissues. Seedlings that germinated underground grow quickly to escape from the darkness, while plants that are threatened to be overgrown ...

Alienation and Stress among Doctors: Dilemmas and Possible Solutions

open access: yesProfessions and Professionalism, 2015
Studies of alienation, stress, burnout, and dissatisfaction among doctors are plagued by unclear and varied definition of these terms. Many are small, local, and short, which limit insights.

Diffraction Gratings for Uniform Light Extraction from Light Guides [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
A theoretical approach for uniformly extracting light propagating through a light guide plate is developed here. Typically, liquid crystal display modalities utilize a backlit lighting system illuminated from the edge with light emitting diodes.

Elastic Light Scattering by Semiconductor Quantum Dots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Elastic light scattering by low-dimensional semiconductor objects is investigated theoretically. The differential cross section of resonant light scattering on excitons in quantum dots is calculated. The polarization and angular distribution of scattered light do not depend on the quantum-dot form, sizes and potential configuration if light wave ...

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

Selling packaged software: an ethical analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Within the IS literature there is little discussion on selling software products in general and especially from the ethical point of view. Similarly, within computer ethics, although there is much interest in professionalism and professional codes, in ...
