Optogenetics Therapy of Human Cancers
The optogenetics approach uses a combination of genetic and optical methods to control the functions in specific cells of biological tissues. Since the control of neuronal activity by irradiating channelrhodopsin-2 with blue light was reported in 2005 ...

COP1 and BBXs‐HY5‐mediated light signal transduction in plants [PDF]
SummaryLight is one of the most essential environmental factors affecting many aspects of growth and developmental processes in plants. Plants undergo skotomorphogenic or photomorphogenic development dependent on the absence or presence of light. These two developmental programs enable a germinated seed to become a healthy seedling at the early stage ...

Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Olfactory G proteins: Simple and complex signal transduction
In both vertebrates and invertebrates, olfactory perception is mediated by G-protein-coupled receptors. Recent work, in both mouse and Caenorhabditis elegans, sheds light on the role of specific G proteins in olfactory signal transduction, neuronal ...

Background The anthocyanins are highly enriched in eggplants (Solanum melongena L.) with purple peel. However, our previous study showed that anthocyanins biosynthesis in eggplant cultivar ‘Lanshan Hexian’ was completely regulated by light and color ...

Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Structural Basis for Signal Transduction in LOV Blue Light Photoreceptors
This research focused on studying the mechanisms of signal transduction within Light-Oxygen-Voltage domains, a subset of the PAS domain family. The first of two projects addressed intradomain signaling from the hydrophobic core to the domain surface ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

The HY5-PIF regulatory module coordinates light and temperature control of photosynthetic gene transcription [PDF]
The ability to interpret daily and seasonal alterations in light and temperature signals is essential for plant survival. This is particularly important during seedling establishment when the phytochrome photoreceptors activate photosynthetic pigment ...
