Postoperative monitoring of lower limb free flaps with the CookâSwartz implantable doppler probe: A clinical trial [PDF]
Background: Free flaps to the lower limb have inherently high venous pressures, potentially impairing flap viability, which may lead to limb amputation if flap failure ensues. Adequate monitoring of flap perfusion is thus essential, with timely detection

Mechanically Powered Negative Pressure Wound Therapy as a Bolster for Skin Grafting
Summary: The use of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) as a bolster for split-thickness skin grafts has been well documented in the literature. It facilitates the removal of transudate, which can result in the formation of seroma, and mitigates shear

Advanced Imaging in Limb Salvage [PDF]
The evaluation of patients at risk for limb loss secondary to peripheral arterial disease begins with a complete history and physical exam, and noninvasive studies in the vascular lab, including duplex ultrasonography. However, successful revascularization depends on high-quality, accurate imaging of the lower extremity vasculature.

The prevalence of peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD) in women and men is equal. Studies to date present conflicting data of gender effects on the risk factors, clinical presentation, and treatment outcomes. Clinical trials have often failed to analyze results by gender or to recruit sufficient women to enable such an analysis.

Isolated profundaplasty for limb salvage [PDF]
Fifty-four patients underwent 56 profundaplasties for limb salvage. All had stenosis greater than 50% in diameter of the deep femoral artery and associated superficial femoral artery occlusive disease. After profundaplasty, ischemic ulcers healed in 9 of 17 (53%) patients. Rest pain was relieved in 6 of 19 (32%) and areas of ischemic necrosis healed in
