Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Quantum limit cycles and synchronization from a measurement perspective

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
Limit-cycle oscillators are the basic building blocks for synchronization; yet, the notion of a quantum limit cycle has remained unclear. Here, we study quantum limit cycles and synchronization in the presence of continuous heterodyne measurement.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Centres and limit cycles for an extended Kukles system

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2007
We present conditions for the origin to be a centre for a class of cubic systems. Some of the centre conditions are determined by finding complicated invariant functions. We also investigate the coexistence of fine foci and the simultaneous bifurcation

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Limit cycles for discontinuous generalized Lienard polynomial differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2013
We divide $\mathbb{R}^2$ into sectors $S_1,\dots ,S_l$, with $l>1$ even, and define a discontinuous differential system such that in each sector, we have a smooth generalized Lienard polynomial differential equation $\ddot{x}+f_i(x)\dot{x} +g_i(x)=0$,

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

The Solution of the Extended 16th Hilbert Problem for Some Classes of Piecewise Differential Systems

open access: yesMathematics
The limit cycles have a main role in understanding the dynamics of planar differential systems, but their study is generally challenging. In the last few years, there has been a growing interest in researching the limit cycles of certain classes of ...

The therapeutic opportunities and pitfalls of using iron ion chelators to treat neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Although too much iron in the brain promotes neurodegeneration, iron ion chelators have had mixed effects in clinical trials. This review explains why; some chelators do not render the iron redox‐inactive (e.g., L1) whereas others do (e.g., desferrioxamine).
