Seismic bearing capacity of shallow strip footing embedded in slope resting on two-layered soil
In this paper, the limit equilibrium method with the pseudo-static approach is developed in the evaluation of the influence of slope on the bearing capacity of a shallow foundation.

The equilibrium limit of the Casati–Prosen model [PDF]
An alternative explanation of the decoherence in the Casati-Prosen model is presented. It is based on the Self Induced Decoherence formalism extended to non-integrable systems.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Rectangular Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Rational Dimensions under Uniaxial Eccentric Compression
An algorithm for generating the training dataset and the machine learning model for selecting the cross-sectional dimensions of eccentrically compressed concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns have been developed.

Fundamental Limits of Metrology at Thermal Equilibrium
We consider the estimation of an unknown parameter $θ$ through a quantum probe at thermal equilibrium. The probe is assumed to be in a Gibbs state according to its Hamiltonian $H_θ$, which is divided in a parameter-encoding term $H^{\rm P}_θ$ and an additional, parameter-independent, control $H^{\rm C}$.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Central Limit Theorem for punctuated equilibrium [PDF]
Abstract Current evolutionary biology models usually assume that a phenotype undergoes gradual change. This is in stark contrast to biological intuition, which indicates that change can also be punctuated-the phenotype can jump. Such a jump can especially occur at speciation, i.e.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Study on instability mode of double weak layer burnt rock slope
In order to study the failure mode of double weak layer slope of burnt rock in opencast coal mine, the failure and deformation characteristics of the slope were analyzed by means of FLAC3D numerical simulation, and the mechanical model of the slope was ...
