Line-closed combinatorial geometries

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1987
We present some results on combinatorial geometries (geometric lattices) in which closure is line-closure. We prove that every interval of a line- closed geometry is line-closed. Furthermore, if every rank 3 interval of a geometry is line-closed, then the geometry is line-closed. This implies that every supersolvable geometry is line-closed. Though not

Accretion disk wind as explanation for the broad-line region structure in NGC 5548

open access: yes, 2013
Supermassive black holes in the centers of active galactic nuclei (AGN) are surrounded by broad-line regions (BLRs). The broad emission lines seen in the AGN spectra are emitted in this spatially unresolved region.

Speciation Through the Lens of Population Dynamics: A Theoretical Primer on How Small and Large Populations Diverge

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Population size and dynamics fundamentally shape speciation by influencing genetic drift, founder events, and adaptive potential. Small populations may speciate rapidly due to stronger drift, whereas large populations harbor more genetic diversity, which can alter divergence trajectories. We highlight theoretical models that incorporate population size

Improved Neural Networks Based on Mutual Information via Information Geometry

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2019
This paper presents a new algorithm based on the theory of mutual information and information geometry. This algorithm places emphasis on adaptive mutual information estimation and maximum likelihood estimation.

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Pairwise transitive 2-designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We classify the pairwise transitive 2-designs, that is, 2-designs such that a group of automorphisms is transitive on the following five sets of ordered pairs: point-pairs, incident point-block pairs, non-incident point-block pairs, intersecting block ...

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Physics-based surge point identification for unsupervised CFD-computation of centrifugal compressor speed lines

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X, 2023
We present a speed line calculation model using physics-based surge point identification. When using surrogate model-based design of experiment (DOE) techniques, the large number of computations demands an automated, unsupervised process to calculate the

On-Line Reconstruction of CAD Geometry [PDF]

open access: yes2013 International Conference on 3D Vision, 2013
In reverse engineering and computer-aided design (CAD) applications point cloud data is usually manually scanned, reconstructed, and post-processed in separated steps. When point cloud data resulting from a scanning process do not satisfy certain necessary reconstruction requirements, one must perform scanning again to enable proper reconstruction.
