Genetic variation within a parthenogenetic lineage

Insect Molecular Biology, 1998
Abstract A clone of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae F. was maintained parthenogenetically over thirty‐two generations ( n = 344) in a constant environment: a new generation being set up by a female selected at random from the preceding

Genetic Lineage Tracing of Beta Cell Neogenesis

2012
Genetic lineage tracing is an invaluable tool to demonstrate and measure neogenesis of beta cells from putative precursor cells. Cre-Lox recombination technology can be used for indelible labeling of a cohort of cells and following the fate of these cells and their progeny in animal models.

Genetic Lineage Tracing of Non-cardiomyocytes in Mice

2020
Genetic lineage tracing is accomplished using bi-transgenic mice, where one allele is altered to express Cre recombinase, and another allele encodes a Cre-dependent genetic reporter protein. Once Cre is activated (constitutive or in response to tamoxifen), the marker gene-expressing cells become indelibly labeled by the reporter protein.

Genetic Lineage Tracing of Biliary Epithelial Cells

2018
Lineage tracing of liver cells is a powerful tool to understand liver embryonic development, healthy liver cell homeostasis, tissue repair, and regeneration. Lineage tracing of biliary epithelial cells (BECs) in the adult liver has been used to assess the contribution of the biliary epithelium to liver injury, regeneration, and disease.

Genetics and the human lineage

2007
Genetics has greatly contributed to current knowledge about the evolution of the human lineage. Immunological techniques and the molecular clock have addressed the time divergence of human and chimpanzee lineages, disproving the late divergence model.

Visualization of genetic lineages and inheritance information in genetic programming

Proceedings of the 15th annual conference companion on Genetic and evolutionary computation, 2013
Many studies emphasize the importance of genetic diversity and the need for an appropriate tuning of selection pressure in genetic programming. Additional important aspects are the performance and effects of the genetic operators (crossover and mutation) on the transfer and stabilization of inherited information blocks during the run of the algorithm ...

Domestic dog lineages reveal genetic drivers of behavioral diversification

Cell, 2022
SummarySelective breeding of domestic dogs has generated diverse breeds often optimized for performing specialized tasks. Despite the heritability of breed-typical behavioral traits, identification of causal loci has proven challenging due to the complexity of canine population structure.

Spatial genetic patterns generated by two admixing genetic lineages: a simulation study

Conservation Genetics, 2006
Two formerly geographically separated lineages of the zebra mussel Dreissena polymorpha had been given the opportunity to mix extensively across the newly built German Main–Danube canal. We had monitored this admixture of mussel lineages and had described spatial patterns in different genetic measures [Muller et al. 2001 (Heredity, 86: 103); 2002 (Proc.

Erythrocyte–Plasmodium interactions: genetic manipulation of the erythroid lineage

Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2022
Targeting critical host factors is an emerging concept in the treatment of infectious diseases. As obligate pathogens of erythrocytes, the Plasmodium spp. parasites that cause malaria must exploit erythroid host factors for their survival. However, our understanding of this important aspect of the malaria lifecycle is limited, in part because ...
