Advanced Virtual Accelerator Software: A linear accelerator simulation code

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
The Advanced Virtual Accelerator Software (avas) has been developed to simulate beam transport processes in high-intensity linear accelerators and has been used in the China Initiative Accelerator Driven System (CiADS) project.

An Energy Feedback System for the MIT/Bates Linear Accelerator

open access: yes, 1999
We report the development and implementation of an energy feedback system for the MIT/Bates Linear Accelerator Center. General requirements of the system are described, as are the specific requirements, features, and components of the system unique to ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Intrabeam scattering formulas for high energy beams

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2005
We derive completely integrated formulas for emittance growth times due to intrabeam scattering for charged particle beams in the high energy limit, including the effect of lattice parameters that vary around the accelerator ring.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Energy recovery proton linear accelerator

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
High-power proton linear accelerators have important applications in both scientific research and industry. However, the operation of such accelerators with megawatt-level beam power is expensive and limits the broad availability of these facilities.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Hadronic Interactions at Cosmic Ray Energies

open access: yes, 2006
General physics of very high energy hadronic interactions is discussed. Special attention is payed to the contribution of semihard processes to the interaction dynamics and to the role of parton shadowing and parton density saturation. In particular, the

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The Conversion of CESR to Operate as the Test Accelerator, CesrTA, Part 2: Vacuum Modifications

open access: yes, 2015
Cornell's electron/positron storage ring (CESR) was modified over a series of accelerator shutdowns beginning in May 2008, which substantially improves its capability for research and development for particle accelerators.
